The US Senate has begun debate on the Energy bill. If too weak, this bill could damage chances for strong action on a Climate Change bill in October!

PLEASE CALL OUR SENATORS AND URGE THEM TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

SUPPORT the Bingaman amendment on renewable energy. (Vote is later today, Weds.)

SUPPORT the Schumer amendment on CAFÉ standards.

OPPOSE the Levin amendment on CAFÉ standards.

AT THIS STAGE THE SENATORS ARE JUST COUNTING NUMBERS. THEY KNOW THE ISSUES.

No need for any details. The receptionist will simply record your vote in the appropriate column!

UPDATE 2: According to Tom Gray from the American Wind Energy Association (see comments section), the vote on the Bingaman Renewable Portfolio Standard has been postponed until today (Thursday), and the inside word is that it will be very close. If you support this concept, the time to weigh in is right now!

You can also reach any Senator's office through the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121. (But it's most important that you call your own Senators -- as a constituent, you'll have more pull. Besides, those calls are local.)
