"Queer As Folk" Cast at Hillary Pgh Headquarters

File this under: You never know who will turn up at Hillary Clinton's Pittsburgh Campaign Headquarters

Cast members from the hit Showtime series "Queer As Folk" (which was set in Pittsburgh) were at Hillary headquarters in Pittsburgh on Sunday. They had been all over town this weekend stumping for Hillary.

Michelle Clunie ("Mel"), Robert Gant ("Ben")
and Friend of 2pj Zuri Hodge

Sharon Gless ("Debbie")

Local LGBT groups Steel City Stonewall and the Gertrude Stein Club have both endorsed Hillary as has the Burghosphere's own Pittsburgh Lesbian Correspondents:

Here's what it comes down to for me. On "the issues," they are pretty close. By that I mean, their stances on ENDA, DADT, civil unions, marriage, etc. On paper, they "appear" very similar.

In action, they are nothing alike. Barack Obama has refused to interview with local gay media anywhere. Period. He gave one interview to the national gay magazine, The Advocate. How can one national interview, late in the primary season, build a relationship with the gay community? He made a speech imploring the African-American religious community to embrace gay civil rights. This after he brought notorious "ex-gay" Donnie McClurkin on board his swing through the south gospel tour or whatever it was called. He clearly has no problem affiliating with a movement that denounces homosexuality as something to be cured, a stance that taps right into the self-loathing so rampant among closeted minorities and youth.

[snip]

Hillary Clinton marches in Pride parades. Her daughter visits gay bars. She worked to stop the national "marriage protection" amendment. She lifts up the gay people in her life, particularly those who touched her family personally. Hillary grants interviews to local gay media. She reaches out with intent to build relationships with our community. She has a LGBT steering committee in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
Speaking of The Advocate interview, Barack said the following:

Somebody else who influenced me, I actually had a professor at Occidental -- now, this is embarrassing because I might screw up his last name -- Lawrence Golden, I think it was. He was a wonderful guy. He was the first openly gay professor that I had ever come in contact with, or openly gay person of authority that I had come in contact with. And he was just a terrific guy. He wasn’t proselytizing all the time, but just his comfort in his own skin and the friendship we developed helped to educate me on a number of these issues. (emp. mine)

Proselytizing!?!

Way to stereotype gays!

Senator Clinton worked against the defense of marriage act that her husband signed into law?

Wow, Senator Clinton does take only what people like from those 8 years as First Lady while claiming she secretly opposed everything voters don't like, doesn't she?

Senator Obama speaks out against homophobia everywhere, in rural America, in urban America in midwest America, in Southern America, in Western America, in Northern America and in Eastern America. Somehow, I cannot see how this is dismissed as nothing.

Sure, as long as you don't mind that Hillary supported DOMA, what the hell, go ahead and vote for her.

What does Hillary's secretary and Hillary being a lesbian rumor have to do with her credentials as someone running for president? Carolyn, you're a joke.

Let me tell you something about your precious. Obama wouldn't even take a photo with Gavin Newsome, the SF Mayor who is pro-gay marriage, for fear that his voters may be uncomfortable with the notion of him supporting gays. So wake up! When asked if he would take up the issue of legalized gay marriage when he's president, his answer was it's not the right atmosphere right now to raised that issue ...uh, yeah, I'll take that as a NO then.

DADT and DOMA are exactly why you should support Hillary.

Remember, between 1992 and 2008 is a world of difference. Bill Clinton won the support of the LGBT community in 1992 with his assurance to end the ban on gays in the military. He had the good intentions, but it was political naiveté. So we ended up with ‘don’t ask don’t tell.’ Hillary has learned the hard way what it takes to get things done, what is possible, and to avoid making promises that you can’t keep.

Obama hasn't actually done much at all - besides talk. And that Advocate interview makes me nervous: within 3 paragraphs he did a 180. He's a political neophyte.
Hillary is sponsored, originally sponsored, and fought for us; she's gotten big bucks for the NY LGBT community center; walked publicly with us in parades, etc.

If you want to vote for talk, go ahead - I am voting for ACTION - I am voting for Hillary!

We watched the discussion on Logo TV channel when the Dems went to the meeting for the gay issues talk. There is no doubt about, Hillary had a complete grasp of the issues. Nobama seemed to think the issues of the gay community were similar to the black community. Now he is talking about letting the generals or chief of staff decide the issue of gays in the military. Carolyn, you, your blog, and Nobama are phony. Go Hillary, you are the best. Thanks for your support friends.

It was the LOGO debate that turned me off Richardson. I hear he has a good record on LGBT issues, but the debate proved he had terminal foot-in-mouth disease.
