A New High, A New Low

Some new poll numbers from the LATimes/Bloomberg. When asked:
Do you approve or disapprove of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president?
only 23% answered "approve" (a new low for that poll) and a striking 73% answered "disapprove" (a new high).

Worst. President. Ever.

  1. John K.: (Yawn) another poll. If Jim Burn reads the numbers they will drop to 15%. To say Bush is the worst President ever is a bit premature. His presidency is not over. Remember truman left office with a 22% approval and look at where he stand now. But then that statement is indicitive of how the left thinks. Short term and without any historical references.

  2. give him time, i'm sure his rating will go even lower.

even the most diehard conservative recognizes the problems this man and his administration have caused for this country, and the world as a whole. it's only you knee-jerk republicans who insist on defending him, simply for the R next to his name.

  3. Truman should be remembered with contempt and disgust for the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

  4. Eric, I agree that Truman's decision about using The Bomb was wrong, but it was not evil. There are excellent arguments for his having done it. For example, it probably saved more lives than it cost.

That said, I agree that Truman made a lot of bad decisions including some terrible ones. I don't consider him a great, nor even a good, president.

  5. I cannot justify the mass murder of thousands of civilians to save soldiers' lives. Soldiers are legitimate targets. Civilians are not.

  6. And that is an excellent argument on the other side, one that Truman had to weigh. As I said, I am no fan of President No Middle Name, but I think he considered himself a moral man and that he acted morally, even if you and I might question the morality of any number of decisions he made.

  7. John K: This is a (LMAO) poll, similar to the Newsweek poll of a few days ago (LMAO) that over samples Democrats. It means as much as any of your opinions, squat. LOL LOL A Gallup poll, and other credible poll puts them both at 45%. LMAO I told you this was a poll for Jim Burn to run around and cite even if the numbers were false. You dumb lefties sample lefties like yourself and then use it as an example. LMAO I am never wrong. (Refer to my first comment on this) Citing a poll of Democrats. LMAO LMAO Oh man!

  8. John K: Don't really care what you think Truman should be remembered as, he is fondly remembered by both Democrats and Republicans, even though he left office with a 22% approval. And his resurgence is based on those bomb droppings. Eric would clearly have a change of mind if he were in the assault waves for Operation Olympic.

  9. "Eric would clearly have a change of mind if he were in the assault waves for Operation Olympic."I beg your pardon. If being part of a planned assault changed my mind about annihilating hundreds of thousands of innocent people, it certainly wouldn't be due to rational thought, reason, courage, or charity. It'd be a selfish, narcissistic opinion formed out of fear, lack of humility, and callousness. Like any fallible human being, I'd prefer someone else's ass be on the line - that someone else die rather than me. That doesn't make it right. It also doesn't make what Truman ordered anything but cold-blooded murder.

  10. John K.: Yes it would Eric. Because in Aug 1945 you would have been in the military and you would have been getting ready for Operation Olympic or Coronet. And it would have bothered you severly. So Truman saved over 1 million US lives and countless Japanese lives. You do support the Greatest Generation don't you?

Got any more polls of left wingers asking left wingers who they would vote for and then publishing it as news? LMAO

  11. Greatest Generation my ass. I don't buy into that mythology. BTW, John K, if saying that makes you think I'm a liberal, you're wrong. I'm much closer to libertarian. Think outside the left-right spectrum. Heck, just thinking would be a welcome change.

  12. I guess we're comparing Bush and Truman because Truman had miserable favorability ratings when he left office, but it's really a negative correlation.

Nixon left office with equally horrid numbers and never recovered. Carter left with low numbers but is now viewed favorably by a majority of Americans largely for his work since he left office.

Bush's problem is that the historians who will be writing the history books over the next 10, 20, 30 years have already largely made up their minds about his presidency and their works will reflect that very low opinion many of them have of him.

In the modern age, it's simply not the case that history will judge. He's being judged now. History won't save him.
