John McCain and The Draft

I can't be misreading this one, can I?

John McCain does say that he "doesn't disagree" when a questioner suggests that the draft be reinstated, doesn't he?

Via Think Progress, here's the transcript.

AUDIENCE MEMBER: Senator McCain I truly hope you get the opportunity to chase Bin Laden right to the gates of hell and push him in as you stated on your forum. I do have a question though. Disable veterans, especially in this state have horrible conditions, their medical is substandard. They drive four hours one way to Albuquerque for a simple doctors appointment which is often canceled. Our VA hospital is dirty it is understaffed, it is running on maximum overload. The prescription medicines are ten years behind standard medical care we have seven hundred claims stacked up at the VA office in Albuquerque some of them are ten and seven years old waiting to be processed in the mean time these people are homeless. My son is an officer in the Air Force, and I am a vet and I was raised in a military family. I think it is a sad state of affairs when we have illegal aliens having a Medicaid card that can access specialist top physicians, the best of medical and our vets can’t even get to a doctor. These are the people that we tied yellow ribbons for and Bush patted on the back. If we don’t reenact the draft I don’t think we will have anyone to chase Bin Laden to the gates of hell.

MCCAIN: Ma’am let me say that I don’t disagree with anything you said and thank you and I am grateful for your support of all of our veterans. [emphasis added]

Let's go to the videotape:

  1. Oh, he agreed with it all right. Every last word of it.

John McCain has already said that "there will be other wars," so I'm sure he already has some in mind.

When you factor in the history of his violent temper - assaulting Rick Renzi, verbally accosting a number of his fellow Republican senators and Thad Cochrans' comment that, ""The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine...He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me..." - with Pat Buchanan's comments that McCain's foreign policy is George W. Bush on steroids, it's not hard to see the potential danger of an unhinged McCain presidency.

He's a ticking bomb waiting to go off. Too unstable, too ill-tempered to be elected President. There's just too much risk with a person like that.

One of his fellow POW's - Dr. Phillip Butler(who actually spent more time in a POW camp than McCain) recently wrote the following about the old senator:

I can verify that John has an infamous reputation for being a hot head. He has a quick and explosive temper that many have experienced first hand. Folks, quite honestly that is not the finger I want next to that red button.

The entire article he wrote can be read here: Why a former POW won't vote for John McCain. Butler also goes on to clarify McCain's own accounts as a POW. Defintely a story either Maria or Dayvoe should take a look at.

John McCain - "In your guts, you know he's nuts."

  3. John K: Agreeing with what someone said is a far cry from saying they intends to reintroduce the draft.  That inference is just plain stupid.  By the way, only party that tried to reintroduce the draft was in fact the Democrats.  Rep. C. Rangel.  Murtha backed him up.  LMAO LMAO But hey blame it all on Rove if you want to infer something. LOL LOL

  5. John K: Yah, you really don't know much about stop/loss or military obligations.  Way out of your league here.
