Seven - At Least!

Wait, wait!

There's a response from the McCain folks. It's NOT seven! How DARE you say that when Obama is an elitist!

Truth is (well "truth" from the McCain camp) is that it's only four.

Honestly...how can you not know how many homes you own?

No wonder Millionaire McCain thinks the economy is strong: he has no idea what's really go on.

He's also playing the POW card - how dare you question me, I was a POW!!! He's apparently ammended Rudy's "noun, verb, 9/11" rule to "noun, verb, POW."

John K: Well at least he bought his own homes.  Hussein Obama had Rezko buy his house.

John K. said...

John K: But this is typical liberalism.  Perhaps the left would prefer a Presidential candidate who was homeless and lived under the bridge. LOL That person clearly knows how to handle money.

Good luck hunting with Rezko, John, an issue that's pretty irrelevant at this point. There's simply no there there.

But nice lie anyway, John. You might want to ask some Clinton supporters how far they got with that attack against Obama.

Otherwise, been there, done that.

But typical liberalism?

Try typical conservatism - portraying yourself as something your not. What, did you guys really believe you were going to get to keep calling Obama an elitist without anyone looking into McCain's lifestyle?

It's like the celebrity attack - I guess all the wingers forgot about Ronald Reagan & Arnold?

At a time when Americans are losing their homes, John McCain HAS TO ASK SOMEONE TO TELL HIM HOW MANY HE HAS. Utterly indefensible.

McCain is simply out of touch when it comes to the struggles Americans face every day; that's probably why he ignores 101 million American families in his tax giveaways to big corporations and the super rich.

Anonymous said...

It was a simply question that McCain couldn't answer.

Why? Well, he may not have wanted to answer it, which indicates that he is trying to hide who he really is.

The alternative is that McCain genuinely didn't know how many homes he lived in.

Sorry, but I want a president that can a) answer simple questions and b) remember how many homes he has.

Frankly, the fact that McCain didn't answer this question and again had to ask for someone else to get the answer for him lends credence to the idea that McCain is beginning to show some of the ravages of age, which do begin to manifest prominently when a person reaches their 70's.

Sorry but if he can't even answer the simplest of questions, how can we possibly trust him with the Presidency?

Since you mentioned Rezko, John, I suppose it's only fair that we mention McCain's involvement in the Keating scandal.

Rezko cost the taxpayers $0. And Obama had nothing to do with any of it. It's been proven. Too bad for you.

But John McCain's involvement in the Keating scandal - and he was directly involved - cost the taxpayers $160 billion!

You really believe McCain's got nothing to hide?

John K. said...

John K: So you lefties ought to think about this.  Do you want a President who can afford to buy his own house or one, Hussein Obama, who has to get his pal, Tony Rezko, to buy it for him?  Of course, in view of the fact that Obama makes $4 million a year you would think he could buy a house for his brother in Kenya, George Obama.  I mean George is living off $1 a month.

John K. said...

John K: Jaywillie, think of this.  You lefties support a candidate who has a friend who bought him a house that is a convicted felon.  LMAO LMAO How many convicted felons do you know personally Jaywillie.  Hussein Obama knows at least one. LOL

Anonymous said...

You're lying, John. Rezko did not buy Obama's house. Christ, you can't even get that attack right. Maybe you should do a little research before you mimic what Limbaugh tells you what to say?

Stop lying and address the issue at hand:

Why couldn't McCain answer a simple question?

Anonymous said...

How many people do you know, John, who own nearly a dozen homes, all across the country?

I don't know anyone like that. And I bet most Americans don't know anyone like that.

People deserve a president that knows what's going on - not one who needs to be told what to say or one that has led an elitist lifestyle for so long that he has no idea what Americans are dealing with on a day to day basis.

Conservative Mountaineer said...

Funny, I don't remember the number of houses one owns being an issue in 2004 with John "Did you know I was in Vietnam" Kerry and Teresa Heinz "Get me another drink" Kerry.

Or, did I miss something?

Dayvoe said...

Like any good right wing partisan, KGC, you're trying to change the subject when things get dicey for your side.

The issue is NOT necessarily how many houses the wealthy McCains own, but the fact that John McCain is so out of touch that he didn't know how many he had.

Also, like any good right wing partisan, you didn't do your homework before speaking up. The issue did come up in the 2004 race. Take a look. I'll quote:

From a sailing mecca to a ski resort, presumptive Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, enjoy the trappings of their wealth in at least five homes and vacation getaways across the country valued at nearly $33 million.

This one's on me. You really need to do your homework next time.

Well said, Dayvoe.

Correction: The shading dealings of McCain and Keating cost taxpayers $3.4 billion; the total cost to taxpayers from the savings & loan crisis was $125 billion(courtesy of Jonathan Singer)

Also, it seems the Republican response is three-fold:
1)Rezko(old news)
2)Wright(old news)
3)Obama is a terrorist(insane)

527's are pushing the Ayers smear - yawn - but the intent is clearly that Obama associates with terrorists and the ad(sorry I don't have a link, but check out TPM - I think that's where I saw it) ratchets it up a notch linking it all to 9/11 w/ a reference to Flight 93 not hitting its intended target.

So, yeah, the right's gone there - right over the edge.

Let's be honest here...who cares?

Look at what's happening in the world today...Vladimir Putin is trying to rebuild the Russian empire, terrorism has surfaced in North Africa (in countries that are NOT being occupied by any outside powers), suicide bombers are devastating northern Pakistan thanks to the "peace deal" worked out by the anti-Musharraf factions, and oh yes, all we can do here in the US is argue who has more homes.

Now that the sons of Iraq have risen up against the scum of earth terrorists, all the media is interested in are these dumb interviews with Big O and his family--every major magazine in the country seems to have done it at least once.

There's a hell of a lot in the world going on right now, regardless of which end of the spectrum you are on, this stuff shouldn't even be on the radar screen.

BTW, I'm still hoping you will heed my advice. Why aren't any of you people declaring why Americans should vote FOR Obama, and not AGAINST McCain. It seems thats your strategy, because you have nothing else.

The fact that Obama has nothing real to offer and the fact that he can only appeal to the hardcore left is what I believe will ultimately keep him from getting into the White House.

Maria said...

As a big time Hillary supporter, I still have no problem coming up with reasons to vote FOR Obama (in no particular order):

1) He didn't believe the Bush lies about Iraq before the war. That's good judgment.
2) He will make it better for millions of Americans who cannot now afford healthcare -- that by the way helps those who do have insurance as they're already paying for the uninsured with out-of-control rise in insurance rates and cutbacks on employer paid plans.
3) He believes in the Constitution and the Geneva Conventions.
4) He won't repeat the Bush model that McCain seems determined to follow: Cut taxes for the wealthy and start a war with no way to pay for it.
5) He doesn't call his wife a "cunt" in public and does not make rape jokes.
6) He's pro choice.
7) He supports our troops in ways that really count (McCain has repeatedly voted against money for Veteran healthcare).

Well that's just off the top of my head, and my head is stuffed up with a summer cold (why I'm up so late). I'm sure I'd have no problem coming up with more when it wasn't the middle of the night.

Actually, I think an interesting question is why John McCain doesn't know how many houses he (and his wife) own. I would think an ordinary person of reasonable mental capacity would be able to recall something as big as a house. Even if they own 12 houses, even if she buys everything, he can't plumb the depths of his memory to recall the houses she bought? When John K says "Well at least he bought his own homes.": if you don't remember the houses, how do you know who bought them? Abramoff? He doesn't have access to his wife's financial records apparently. She could be doing anything, and we don't get to ask about it.

John K. said...

John K: Hussein Obama does not know how many states there are.  And Obama said this to the press about his VP choice, "Wouldn't you like to know."  What is he, in 9th grade? LMAO LMAO  Rezko bought the house for Obama.  Hussein Obama also had to  amend his campaign financials to reveal the fact that he took money from an anarchist who tried to kil people with bombs, Ayers. We intend to inform everyone of these facts.  The press failed to do its duty when Rezko was convicted and tell the public about Ayers.  LMAO YOU can't hide anymore. LOL

John K. said...

John K: Let's take a look at McCain.  If you had reported the situation correctly you would know that McCain personally owns one house.  His wife owns the other 6.   They do not file a joint tax return. They file married filing separately. If any of you in here actually paid taxes you would know there are certain exemptions and credits you take for home ownership.  So the answer is not an up or down answer.  But in the case of Obama, Yo who bought your house bro.  The Tony Rezko answer is rather simple. But he is in jail. LMAO

John K. said...

John K: To the other question:  How many of you do business with convicted felons.  Obama does. LMAO And Hillary knows more convicted felons than your average street corner drug dealer.  Another reason to vote Obama.

and john if you can't remember that, then you are quite young.

John McCain severed all ties with Charles Keating after he learned that serious crimminal charges were being considered against the Lincoln Savings and Loan. Keating was not convicted of felony charges until 1989.

Still, there is this from the Wikipedia:

"McCain and Keating had become personal friends following their initial contacts in 1981.[8] Between 1982 and 1987, McCain had received $112,000 in political contributions from Keating and his associates.[14] In addition, McCain's wife Cindy McCain and her father Jim Hensley had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. McCain, his family, and their baby-sitter had made nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard Keating's jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain did not pay Keating (in the amount of $13,433) for some of the trips until years after they were taken, when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln.[6][15"

Obama and Rezko clearly have had ties. Obama accepted donations early in his career from Rezko, and he and Mrs Rezko bought adjacent property on the same day (he paid a million six, she paid 625 grand). He subsequently paid a hundred grand (more than it was worth) to Mrs Rezko for a ten foot strip of land, making his property more valuable and diminishing her property. Still, when she sold at 575 grand, taken with the 100 grand Obama gave her, she made a tidy 50 grand profit. The new owners have placed her old property on the market for 1.5 million (the house next toBarack’s!!!).

Both men have ties to felons, and in fact Keating has been photographed with Bill and Hillary. But at least Obama knows how many houses he has.

Of course, Obama is behind in the polls. Because it is easy to smear a black man.

This is what John K said:

"yes Republicans made a big deal over the number of houses owned by Sen. Kerry and their value. In fact, we mocked Kerry over the fact that he didn't own squat but Terry Heinz did."

We now mock John McCain because he doesn't own squat but hs wife does, and he is so addled/careless he doesn't even know what his wife owns. Don't give me tax returns, a man who once tried to rig the system to help Charles Keating should be careful of who his wife does business with. Yet McCain can't tell you what all her real estate investments are, much less who she does/did business with. He is out of touch with his own life, not to mention the common man.

John K. said...

John K: So it appears that one of the McCain homes is occupied by an elderly aunt.  How nice of him.  Of course, Hussein Obama should send his brother a sign that reads, "Hut, sweet, Hut". LMAO LOL LOL And if Obama was true to any of his principles he would at least send George a twenty thereby doubling his yearly income.  LOL LOL LOL I got that from Limbaugh. He is the man and we are having so much fun over this. LOL

John K. said...

John K: Sherry and KGC you really have to stop controlling other people.  To put words into my mouth is way beyond you.  You can't think as fast or with enough witty reparte as I have.  In short, speak for yourself, because if you speak for me, you are out of your league.

John McCain didn't spend $273,000 on household help, or anything else, last year. He lets his wife pay for things. Some might think that makes him a gigolo. I don't know what to think about this. Maybe we should ask his first wife.

If we can track down which of the houses she inherited she is currently using, of course.

Since others have lately accused me of being a troll because I have dared to defend McCain on what I regarded as meaningless issues put forward by the writers of this blog, let me say that this is an issue that -- at long last -- really does have meaning. You can try to say "who cares" all you want to about this particular gaffe, but it is likely to have real sticking power on McCain.

So you see? I can agree with you every once and a while, David. As long as you stick with issues that really matter, you'll get no grief from me.

That's not to say that this gaffe of his is really all that illustrative of his fitness to be President. He not only married into a wealthy family, but signed a pre-nuptial agreement that more or less takes him out of the financial picture for anything his wife or her family is involved in. Under those conditions, I honestly don't expect him to know all of the ins and outs of her investments, which includes how many houses she has purchased. She may be only the partial owner of some of them.

Hell, even now -- a full 24 hours afterwards -- we still don't have a solid answer from either campaign. I've heard 4, 7, 8, 11, 12, and "more than 12" from various sources. It's clearly not an easy question for anyone to answer.

Nevertheless, he simply couldn't have given a worse answer to the question. He probably thought that giving the wrong number would be disastrous, it was better to give no answer at all than one that was not 100% accurate. But that's not the way it works.

A better answer -- not all that much better, but better nonetheless -- would be something along the lines of "Me and Mrs. McCain? I can't really speak for her an her family, I'm afraid. They could be involved in any number of properties. But I can tell you that I myself directly own ___ home(s), and that Cindy and I have ___ homes that we use on a regular basis. But if you want an exact number of how many investment properties she's involved in, you would really need to ask her."

No doubt about it; he really fumbled here. Badly. In a way that will really resonate with the majority of voters. I'll confess to knowing people who have 2 homes. My boss at one point had at least 3. But almost nobody knows anyone who has so many homes that they can't keep count.

I wouldn't count on Rezko being a dead issue, though. It was never really hit hard during the primaries. And only hard-core Democrats were paying enough attention to have heard about it. Now everybody is watching, and real estate has become the topic of the moment. Obama's house could easily become a hot topic again, now that everyone is paying attention.

But I really doubt it will hurt Obama anywhere near as badly as this one is hurting McCain.

To those talking about John McCain supposedly cutting ties with Keating, you are wrong. John McCain did not sever ties at all. In fact, when McCain learned that Keating was under investigation for his alleged crimes, John McCain intervened in the investigation along with four other senators and called a meeting between the five senators and the investigators to attempt to apply influence on the investigators to quench their investigation of Keating.

In response, all five senators were brought up on charges in the senate. contrary to the bullcrap put out by mccain and the right, John was admonished by the senate for his actions. The incident did cost John the potential of being Bush I's veep which many thought he would have been and put him on the back burner in the senate.

The guy is no saint and he is not clean on this issue at all.

Anonymous said...

Richard, that was me who called you a troll and after reading you're latest comment, I owe you a big apology. I hope you will accept it.

And, John K., you can try to distract from the issue at hand all you want. The simple truth is that McCain couldn't answer a simple question.

And while he's been running around questioning the patriotism of his opponent and calling Obama an elitist, it's about time people see McCain for who he really is.

That entire elitist smear just blew up in your face, John K. And now that people know McCain owns at least 9 homes, carries a $250,000 credit limit on one card alone and wheres $500 loafers, there's no way he shakes that image.

The right is trying just about everything - Rezko, Ayers, Wright will be along soon enough. They've tried arguing that the houses are really Cindy's. And, of course, they've employed the favorite defense of the McCain campaign - he was a POW.

They can't undo the damage done by McCain's answer to a very simple question. So, they are resorting to their usual bag of tricks by spreading more lies, more smears and completely ignoring the matter by assassinating the character of everyone who dares question McCain.

It's not going to work. People see who McCain is now - an out-of-touch elitist that has no idea what American families are dealing with, economically, right now. Hell, McCain doesn't even know who the middle class is in this country.

He's telling Americans to get a second job or cut back on spending so they can afford their mortgage payments, all the while the man doesn't even know how many houses he owns.

Unbelievable.

Nice try though, John. But, unfotunately: Massive FAIL for you.

Anonymous said...

Just to add to what Billrot said, it should also be noted that Cindy McCain had real estate dealings with Keating.

It's nice to know that while the American taxpayers were getting fleeced to the tune of $160 mil to bail out failed S&L's like Keating's, John and Cindy McCain were living high on the hog, arguably as a direct result of the favors McCain did for Keating.

jaywillie and others,

Here is a link to a recent CNN news coverage of McCain that followed the Keating scandal.

Link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toKfaBngnP8&eurl=http://www.jedreport.com/index2.html

Please note that McCain's excuse/defense is the following:
1. He opened up the unprecedented meeting that he and the four senators called with the investigators saying he wanted no special treatment. Understand that even calling such a meeting is an act of intimidation and intervention into the investigation by the senator.
2. McCain argues that Bob Bennett, the special investigator THAT SERVED AS MCCAIN'S LAWYER FOR THE SENATE REVIEW, called for McCain to be removed from the investigation. Can anyone name a time when a lawyer defending a client said their client was not innocent???
