Channeling his inner Queen of Hearts, John McCain furiously, and apparently without even looking around at facts, said Chris Cox, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, should be decapitated. [emphasis added.]And then after linking to a piece in the Wall Street Journal that calls McCain "untethered," Will goes on and writes:
n any case, McCain's smear -- that Cox "betrayed the public's trust" -- is a harbinger of a McCain presidency.See McCain unfairly smeared Chris Cox. The WSJ and George Will said so. Will ends this way:
You got a problem with that? Take it up with George Will, conservative columnsist.Conservatives who insist that electing McCain is crucial usually start, and increasingly end, by saying he would make excellent judicial selections. But the more one sees of [McCain's] impulsive, intensely personal reactions to people and events, the less confidence one has that he would select judges by calm reflection and clear principles, having neither patience nor aptitude for either.
It is arguable that, because of his inexperience, Obama is not ready for the presidency. It is arguable that McCain, because of his boiling moralism and bottomless reservoir of certitudes, is not suited to the presidency. Unreadiness can be corrected, although perhaps at great cost, by experience. Can a dismaying temperament be fixed?

ReplyDeleteWill is absolutely brutal to McCain with this column. Expect conservative automatons to stick their heads in the sand and completely ignore even the criticisms of Palin/McCain from other conservatives like Will.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note(though likely a symptom of the sentiments being expressed by Will): Polling in OH is showing further evidence that McCain is slipping significantly with Seniors(down from a 52-41 McCain advantage to a 46-46 split) and Independents(down from a 51-34 advantage to just 49-42). This slide is also backed-up by polling coming out of Colorado, where Palin is completely tanking:
"Immediately after the Republican convention 41% of Coloradoans said John McCain's choice of Palin to join him on the ticket made them more likely to vote for him while 38% said it made them less likely to do so. Now the number of people saying Palin's selection makes them less likely to vote for McCain has climbed to 47% with the number of people viewing it favorably dropping to 38%."
56% of Independents in Colorad are now less likely to vote for McCain because of Palin.
Voters are starting to pick up on what Will is talking about. McCain seemed very erratic this week; even now he seems very much off his game. And the Times has just made Rick Davis look like a complete joke by exposing the fact that he was still receiving money from Freddie Mac as of last month.
His campaign is not in a strong position heading into the first debate.
John K: So Hussein Obama did not sit down with Ahmadenajad when he had the chance? I guess he figured out could deceive us a while longer? Those photos would have made a great campaign poster.
ReplyDeleteMeds, John. Take your meds.
ReplyDeleteIt'll get you back to this place we all call "reality."
I can't remember if it was on this blog or on the Burgh Report, but someone said that Andrew Cuomo was responsible for part of the subprime debacle (because he was housing secretary for Clinton, and favored getting low income people mortgages - those same low income people who stabbed America in the back by having mortgages they got in the last eight years that they couldn't afford to make payments on because the housing bubble in NYC and LA burst).
ReplyDeleteWell, in the George Will piece McCain mentions that he would replace Chris Cox with Andrew Cuomo. At this rate, maybe John McCain’s choices for the Supreme Court would be more interesting than we think. Too bad Raymond Burr is dead, Perry Mason would be an excellent Supreme Court choice (and the first gay Justice, that we know of). Joseph Wapner and Judith Sheindlin are also good “live” possibilities. Would the Court get it’s own theme music?
maybe the theme from titanic or gilligan's island?
ReplyDeleteJohn K: Well at least Ed got the Cuomo as Sec of Hud part right. He, along with Janet Reno, threatened banks and mortgage loan companies with federal regulators visiting your establishment if you did not comply with the CRA. So Ed, at least you got one part right.
ReplyDeleteWhich part did Sidney McCain get right? That Cuomo is the right man for SEC chair, now? After apparently causing this crisis, according to John K.
