Reagan's Chief Of Staff Endorses OBAMA

Read about it here:
Former Reagan chief of staff Ken Duberstein told CNN's Fareed Zakaria this week he intends to vote for Democrat Barack Obama on Tuesday.

Duberstein said he was influenced by another prominent Reagan official - Colin Powell - in his decision.

"Well let's put it this way - I think Colin Powell's decision is in fact the good housekeeping seal of approval on Barack Obama."

I'm just sayin'

Clearly, Duberstein was never a "real" Republican.

John K: Yep, and this is a good thing. This election has outed all those phony Republicans people like me have been complaining about for 5 years. Republicans who are more DC insiders than people of conservative principles. They vote for and hold positions based on whether they get on the invite list to the holiday parties. And they will turn towards the Republican party again when they perceive the time is right. And now we know who they are. Mission Accomplished.

Yes, John K, good thing we're not a Democracy or anything, where you need to persuade people to vote for your candidates or need experienced people to supportand work for your party.

You can mark the traitors with a backwards "R" carved into their cheeks with a dull knife (blade about five inches long). Those jerks who five years ago had the audacity to question whether invading Iraq with no reason was a reasonable thing to do, and/or whether giving people tax cuts during two wars was a good idea, and/or whether allowing the housing bubble to continue with out any effort at regulating the sub-prime mortgages being issued by the Countrywide’s and other non-bank vendors.

Those traitorous bastards, daring to care about what was happening to the country instead of staying true to conservative values.

John, I think that you're misunderstanding the way that democracy works; you're supposed to get more people to support your side not fewer. How are you going to elect republicans to office if you're alienating every one that you think isn't a "true believer?"

After the republicans have driven off women, african-americans, hispanics, gays, urbanites, environmentalists and non-fundamentalist Christians, there's not too many people left to vote for them.

John K. might be the only political observer I know who thinks losing members from your party is a good thing!

Also, isn't interesting how Republicans are always saying that Dems don't allow anyone who doesn't think like them in the party? They often cite Bob Casey Sr. not being allowed to speak at the convention(nevermind that his equally pro-life son spoke at this year's) as evidence of this.

And, yet, to hear John K. it seems pretty clear which party has withdrawn into the farthest reaches of its reactionary ideology.

If you think the way forward for Republicans is to become even MORE conservative, John K., well, then you and your conservative friends are going to spend an awfully long time in the political wilderness.

Good luck with that!

P.S. When I originally posted my comment about Duberstein, I must confess that it was done with some nefarious motives - I was deliberately trying to provoke a certain respones. John K. complied beautiful.

How's it feel to be played like a broken drum, John K? Do I know conservatives or what?

I just wanted to see if he would say what he's said about Powell and others when it was someone who was HANDPICKED BY RONALD REAGAN. And he did.

Thanks for playing my little game, John K.

"Mission Accomplished?"

Set aside for a moment the point that any thinking Republican would shelve that phrase for at least a couple of decades.

Focus on the "mission" being celebrated. Driving reality-based Republicans ("RINOs") from the party with a horrifying mixture of incompetence, dogma and failure, leaving a concentrated residue of right-wing fringe of Bible-beaters, bigots and black-helicopter fans.

Where any sensible beings would recognize that this relegates the hard-core conservatives to years of pointless and bitter muttering at the margins of America's political debate, plenty of right-wingers believe this is the path to political and national success.

Enjoy the wilderness, wingnuts. The rest of us have a country to fix.
