Couldn't Happen To A Nicer War Criminal

From The Hill:

Congressional Republicans are telling Dick Cheney to go back to his undisclosed location and leave them alone to rebuild the Republican Party without his input.

Displeased with the former vice-president's recent media appearances, Republican lawmakers say he's hurting GOP efforts to reinvent itself after back-to-back electoral drubbings.
Awwww, poor guy.

  1. I thought of Dave "The Nation" reading independent when I read this.
    Media bias
(I’ve made the point before that there’s plenty of “left” left to Eric Alterman’s right. Alterman and his ilk complain about media bias that’s already left-of-center not being far enough left. Which is the same as being too far right. To them The Nation is plays it straight down the middle, which is laughable to all except those who subscribe to the aforementioned magazine.)

  2. Another "let's talk about anything other than the Bush administration's war crimes" comment from HTTT.

  3. As you wish
    From the same site.

    Our foolish president

There is no evidence anyone was tortured at Guantanamo Bay. I know some believe waterboarding is torture, but it doesn’t meet the UN definition
Odd you have no desire for "War Crimes" trials for violations of Geneva Conventions (not wearing uniforms/hiding among civilians) committed by the Iraq insurgents.

  4. The US (pre W) has said that waterboarding is torture and a war crime which is why we prosecuted the Japanese for waterboarding our own soldiers during WWII.

Moreover, an ex- Bush official admitted only a few days ago that many at GITMO aren't guilty of ANYTHING:

Many detainees locked up at Guantanamo were innocent men swept up by U.S. forces unable to distinguish enemies from noncombatants, a former Bush administration official said Thursday. "There are still innocent people there," Lawrence B. Wilkerson, a Republican who was chief of staff to then-Secretary of State Colin Powell, told The Associated Press. "Some have been there six or seven years."

You also don't wear a uniform if you're an innocent bystander.

So the carbombs and roadside IEDs were just the products of innocent bystanders?
By thta standard, Tim Mcveigh was just a innocent bystander.
BTW your link says that the
Japanese used waterboarding. It does not reference that they were prosecuted for it.

  6. I guess HTTT doesn't read this blog much. Take a look here.

The International Committee of the Red Cross has already stated that there was torture at Gitmo. From the conclusion to the report:

The allegations of ill-treatment of the detainees indicate that, in many cases, the ill-treatment to which they were subjected while held in the CIA program, either singly or in combination, constituted torture. In addition, many other elements of the ill-treatment, either singly or in combination, constituted cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

Do you see the part where it says "constituted torture"?

The ICRC is the organization that US Law recognizes to be the international organization who defines torture. And they said it took place.

You can link to as many blogs as you wish, but that won't change the fact that the ICRC said it was torture.

    It was torture.

  7. Logic and evidence are not the Heir's friends.

Whatever connects Tim McVeigh to those detained, abused and then released (or still held with charges) at Guantanamo in the Heir's mind is not logic.

And the evidence -- what we have, what we will discover from combing through information previously concealed -- is not likely to support his views on torture.

As pointless partisan dogma, though -- good stuff!

  8. We're no longer a young nation. It's gotten to a point where America has been around long enough to realize it has to grow up and be a responsible nation like its friends in Europe and the UN.

Is it really such a bummer to realize we're not perfect, or even the best? It's very much expected, and all we have to do is clean up be responsible and do our part. Voicing opinions and speaking out on activist venues like 99problems is only taking one step, there's a lot more to go.
