URGENT! You Are Needed at Specter Town Hall!

By now many of you have seen the disruptive outbursts and repetition of talking points BLATANT LIES that occurred at Sen. Arlen Specter's last town hall on health care reform (see here and here and here).

Tomorrow (8/13), Sen. Specter will be in Kittanning for a town hall meeting - the only one that he'll be doing in Western PA before returning to DC to work on the health care bill.

Those who know how vital health care reform is to the very health of this nation must turn out for this meeting.

And of course the idea is not to come to shut out or shout down the other side, but to civilly and respectfully make our side's determination felt ("our side" being the vast majority of Americans).

WHAT: Sen. Specter Town Hall Meeting
WHEN: Thursday, August 13, 2009. Meeting starts at 3:00PM, but coordinating meeting at noon, 11:00AM or earlier is even better to help insure we get the limited tickets that allow reform proponents to ask questions.
WHERE: Belmont Complex, 415 Butler Rd. Kittanning, PA 16201

And remember, we already have nameless, faceless bureaucrats making decisions on our health care: they work at the insurance companies.

And, the death panels are real:

  1. What it certainly IS NOT is organizing or astroturfing to disrupt discourse.

  2. That's it?

The wingers really are reaching the bottom of the bag.

Hey, Heir...wanna know why you're going to lose this debate on health care reform? Your side has to keep saying more and more insane things.

Do you feel good scaring the elderly by trying to convince them the plot for Soylent Green is reality?

And, why, as a conservative, are you opposed to reforming the Welfare State by cutting out wasteful spending?

And, as a Christian, do you think at some point you should show some compassion and mercy for the living, your brothers and sisters, who are losing their health insurance at a rate of 14,000 per day, when 50% of bankruptcies are health care cost-related, when 47 million people have no insurance, and those who do, in coming years, will have premiums increasing at twice the rate of inflation?

Do you feel like a good American by standing up and reaffirming your support for a broken system that is financially crippling American families?

You know what? Let's go at this from another angle: Why should anyone listen to someone who supported the policies that broke the economy; gave us two unfinished, unpaid for wars; drafted a prescription drug deal that was a handout to the pharmaceutical industry which will cost this country $32 trillion; tax cuts for the wealthiest that were not offset w/ spending cuts and didn't do one thing to make the economy stronger(see Crash of '07-08); and have left a deficit of nearly $2 trillion and doubled the national debt in 8 years that Americans will be paying off for generations?

    WHERE WERE YOU, HEIR?

Where were you in the rush to the war with Iraq? Were you calling for more time before we undertook such a hastily conceived endeavor that has cost us thousands of lives and billions of dollars every day?

Where was your concern then, Heir? How quickly did you jump on the war bandwagon? Where was your concern for initiating a policy as patently un-American as preemptive war? Or were you just too eager to give in to your bloodlust and hunger for a war you knew you would be asked to sacrifice for?

Where were you when we needed to pay for these wars? Where you out arguing against cutting taxes for the wealthiest Americans(which did not increase revenue - it never does) during a time of war, arguing that it was unreasonable to burden future generations of Americans with such a debt without even given some consideration of how to pay for it? Hell, even FDR tried to pay for his war and he was a goddamn socialist.

When you cry about the current tax rates, does the disconnect with your rhetoric and the reality of Reagan-era marginal tax rates on the highest incomes of 50%+ even register?

Where was your outrage when Bush was only letting supporters into events? Why is it so conveniently lacking when it comes to a common practice of Republican lawmakers - screening their town halls by IDing people at the door and making sure only their constituents are let in?

Frankly, Heir, I think the majority of Americans gave you guys a chance. And to hear your gang bemoan the "destruction" of America in just seven months while continuing to pretend that the previous 8 years of absolute mismanagement of the government at the hands of Republicans never occurred is just priceless.

  3. @Maria -

    You're right.

Without an e-mail instructing him how he should conduct himself at a town hall or what he should think about health care reform, he's lost.

Just stand up and yell "No," Heir. That's all your side is good for, because we all know conservatives sure don't know how to govern a country.

  4. This is "effing BS" (see how respectful I am on OTHER people's blogs?)

All of us "not-crazy" people have to WORK on any given Thursday...

My heart will be in Kittanning, though.

  5. Jaywillie..Not very well read are you?

The majority of Americans DO NOT want the reform currently before both houses.
The elderly should be scared. Have you not read Obama's heathcare reform czar Ezekiel Emanuel's writings on public options? You should...he discusses the need to ration care to the elderly and the young. I have read it, as well as the bill. Ezekiel is a total radical.
Next, the Christian thing to do is to help those who need help...help, not give your government more of your money so they can waste it. I donate directly to charities for the elderly and underprivileged children after I have investigated their their use of funds.
Third, did you read the healthcare study that says 50% of bankruptcies are caused by health care? You should. They include bankruptcies resulting from gambling and other ridiculious examples. Gambling...medical...really? Wow, I can't believe you agreee that that is related to our medical system. It clearly is not.
Fourth, included in the millions of unisured are millions and millions of illegals! My father is a hispanic immigrant and guess what...he came here legally! He has only contributed to this country and has never ever taken a single penny of handouts. Illegals need to be sent back so those deserving immigrants who want to contribute to society and pay taxes are given a chance instead of those weighing us down.
As an independent I am very much in favor of cutting down on waste, which is why I don't think the government should be given more control over our healthcare.
If the government wants to fix things they need to allow insurance companies to insure in all states like car insurance companies do. This way there will be more than enough competition to bring prices down. (Side not, read the Wall Street Journal article by the CEO of Safeway talking about how they have kept their healthcare costs flat the last four years. They are a self insured company that charges different rates to its employees based on smoking/nonsmoking, obese/not obese, and various other factors. This is how it should be done. Additionally, the government can set up a small fund to help out those who have preexisting conditions, but this should be the extent of their monetary involvement.
Lastly, I don't come from money, but have done quiet well for myself by studying and working very hard. I was the valedictorian of my high school and it opened up more doors then I could ever need. It is not my fault that other people didn't bother to pay attention in school, made bad career choices, or had kids before they had a reserve of thousands in the bank.
You have a right in this country to get healthcare...on your own!
Besides...if health care is a right and you think the government should provide it, then under that logic the government should provide us all with guns. Now do you see your ridiculousness?

If you don't think a company compensates you well enough...go work for someone else. If you can't get another job, then apparently you don't offer enough and you have no one but yourself to blame.
