Here's the gist of the latest GOP lie-fest. Liz Cheney (Dick's daughter) complained about President Obama's appearance at Dover Air Force Base:
I don't know why he went to Dover. I mean, I think that clearly it is very important for a commander-in-chief, whenever he can in whatever way it possible, to pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, our fallen military folks. But, I think, you know, what President Bush used to do was to it without the cameras, and I don't understand sort of showing up with the White House Press Pool with photographers and asking the family if you can take pictures. The problem? O'Donnell points out:
President Bush never went to Dover Air Force Base to honor dead American soldiers on their final journey. And Vice President Cheney... never did either. Why doesn't simple reality ever matter with these folks?
Oh, that's right. The President was born in Kenya. He's a socialist, a Muslim and the Anti-Christ. His administration is manipulating a government take-over of the Health Care System, a government take-over of economy, and will be manipulating a government take-over of the Internet. Then there's the fairness doctrine, the death panels, and the global warming hoax.
Have I left out anything else from the so-called "party of ideas"?
OK. So, show us or link to video(s) of either President Bush or Vice-President Cheney going to Dover AFB with the Press Corp in tow. You can't. That's a fact. Jack.
ReplyDeleteShow us or link to video(s) or news stories of President Bush or Vice-President Cheney being denied photo opportunties. You can't. That's a fact. Jack.
President Bush met with many families.. PRIVATELY. That's a fact. Jack.
Liz Cheney's point, btw, was that Barack Hussein Obama (hmmm, hmmm, hmmm) went with the press.. and was turned DOWN by all the families except (last) one. That's a fact. Jack. Deal with it.
Barack Hussein Obama (hmmm, hmmm, hmmm) needed a diversion. Epic Fail. That's a fact. Jack.
CM should read/listen more carefully. It's obvious he didn't here. For instance to say that Bush "met with many families" is something O'DONNELL SAID IN HIS COMMENT. We're not talking about simply meeting with families. We're talking about GOING TO DOVER AIR FORCE BASE TO HONOR THE FALLEN.
ReplyDeleteHere, I'll print out that part of the transcript:
President Bush did meet with grieving military families in private, and he went to military hospitals to visit the wounded. As for Ms. Cheney's reference to cameras, the policy of banning media coverage of coffins continued unaltered throughout the Bush administration. Thus, even families that wanted media coverage of their loved one's ceremony were not given any choice in the matter.
Furthermore, President Obama did not make any special requests to any of yesterday's eighteen families as Ms. Cheney implies, I mean lies. The vast majority of those families had already made their individual decisions about media coverage under the current policy before the notification that President Obama would be part of the ceremony.
As for Dick Cheney, when he was Vice President, he sometimes met with the war wounded, but like President Bush, he never went to Dover, either. Never.
CM wasted his time arguing a completely different point.
Again.
Fail.
ReplyDeleteThe way you portrayed Barack Hussein Obama's visit is in direct conflict with reality vs. your implicit portyal of either President Bush or Vice-President Cheney.
Face it. Your "Messiah" is a publicity hound, a constant campaigner and a fraud.
I'd have a whole lot helluva more respect for you liberals if you's man-up and say.. what Barack Hussein Obama (hmmm, hmmm, hmmm) did was distasteful and self-serving, especially by bringing the Press Corp in the middle of the night, but, nooooo.. you have to attack Liz Cheney and then IMPLY President Bush and Vice-President Cheney did the same, or worse.
ReplyDeleteHow's that "hopey-changey" thingy working for y'all? Y'all be hoping we'all business and income providers will be willing to employ you soon. Fat chance. And, that's a fact. Jack.
I have had just about enough of republican teabagger a-holes deciding what is or is not respectful for the military.
ReplyDeleteThere were 18 dead American who came home from Dover that day - 18 - that’s a lot - October was no picnic over there.
Our Commander in Chief was there to pay his respects and honor the fallen. He was not turned away by any families and he didn't go there for a photo op.
CM - you make me sick. How dare you decide what the military thinks? For your information the men and women stationed in Afghanistan with my husband are very pleased that President Obama cared enough to show up at Dover.
The active duty military members are not cowardly limbaughlike /hate radio listening /faux news watching douche bags like CM and the other trolls.
Real heroes don't hate.
If you noticed, GM just changed the subject.
ReplyDeleteWhen you can't defend your position you change the subject.
CM, what is the fact of whether President Bush went to greet coffins of dead American servicemen and women or whether the President or Vice-President went to funerals?
ReplyDeleteSo you think the President should conceal his respect for the servicemen and women who die during his term?
And by the way, show me a politician in this day and age who is not a constant campaigner? Perhaps Sarah Palin?
Also, how distasteful is it to brag about either not hiring people or discriminating in hiring based on someone’s political belief? Very American.
I assume you are not only not driving 55 miles per hour on the highway, you are driving some large SUV, the better to fund the terrorists with, because it makes Obama look bad when American servicemen and women die and so it makes you happy when American servicemen and women die.
The rightwing in this country is truly pathetic.
ReplyDeleteThe President of the United States presents himself to the fallen as they are returned home and the rightwing, of course, takes it as another opportunity to score cheap political points.
For all the Bush bashing we did on the left, we've got nothing on the desperate, sad lies and smears that the right pushes; the only thing the right pushes because when you've run out of ideas just attack your opponent personally or shout "Socialist!"
After Lebanon, President Ronald Reagan presented himself before the flag-draped caskets of those who had died. We know this because the photos taken by the press of the event still exist.
In fact, Ronald Reagan went so far as to announce the event in his radio address:
"In a few hours I’ll undertake one of the saddest journeys of my Presidency. I’ll be going to Andrews Air Force Base to meet one of our Air Force planes bringing home 16 Americans who died this week in the terrorist attack on the United States Embassy in Beirut."

It's not like President Obama dressed up like a military pilot, pretended to land a jet on an aircraft carrier and stood before a banner reading "Mission Accomplished" declaring major combat over in a war that is still unfinished six years later.
And all in glorious Prime Time so the audiences at home could see Dubya play fighter pilot.
As far as the rightwing and their shameless daily attacks against the President goes, you're wasting everyone's time.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's not working, because the President is still supported by a majority of Americans and still trust a whole hell of a lot more than the Republican Party to lead this country.
That's a fact, Jack. And you conservative whiners can't deal with it.
Remember when that little kid asked the President why "they" hate him?
It's because he beat them. And he'll continue to beat them because he's better than every last one of them.
How's that hopey-change working out?
Well, the image of the United States abroad has been restored; the United States of America is once again the most admired country in the world - and for some reason conservatives hate that. And much like President Reagan, President Obama has re-engaged the Russians in talks over nuclear disarmament and managed to bring the Russians, Europeans and Iranians together to resolve the issue of Iranian nuclear technology.
The untenable policy of pre-emption is dead. The United States' position is once again clear when it comes to torture (again, even Reagan didn't have trouble understanding that waterboarding IS torture).
Legislatively, the President is 13-0, about to become 14-0 when health care reform passes with the enormously popular Public Option (easily 2/3 support). The markets have recovered much of their value and we posted 3.5% growth last quarter.
We're not where we need to be, but we're on our way and we wouldn't be if Republicans were still in charge. That's a fact, Jack.
For a first year President, he's done quite well and faced no serious setbacks.
I mean, what did President Bush and his conservative Republican buddies accomplish in his first year besides falling asleep at the wheel and letting 3,000 Americans get murdered by terrorists that he was also unable to hunt down? Remember: it took the death of 3,000 Americans for President Bush to take his job seriously and for Republicans to take terrorism seriously as an issue, because before that, they did neither.
CM, it's ok for you to admit you are embarrassed that Bush never went to Dover air Force base.
ReplyDeleteUnless and until Conservative Mountaineer begins every post with either "I apologize" or "I'm sorry," who cares what follows?
ReplyDeletePresident Obama is light-years ahead of CM's heroes on any morality or competency scale unless and until he 1) invades the wrong country, 2) botches an invasion or 3) leaves Afghanistan to seven years of deadly drift, with thousands of dead and dismembered American soldiers, and many more dead and dismembered innocent Iraqis and Afghans.
If you don't have the character to apologize for what your discredited ideology and incompetent party did to this country and the world, Conservative Mountaineer, I encourage you to at least summon the decency to keep your off-target partisan muttering to yourself.
I am one of the right-wing wingnuts.
ReplyDeleteThe great.effectivejob Al Quaida did from Afghanistan for about $500,000, under Taliban protection, it can do again, four, or five, or six times. Even President Obama understands this.
No, 9/11 was neither a Hollywood production not a hurricane, nor again, a tsunami.
