SECRETARY NAPOLITANO ANNOUNCES HUMANITARIAN PAROLE POLICY FOR CERTAIN HAITIAN ORPHANS
WASHINGTON—Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano, in coordination with the U.S. Department of State, today announced a humanitarian parole policy allowing orphaned children from Haiti to enter the United States temporarily on an individual basis to ensure that they receive the care they need—as part of the U.S. government’s ongoing support of international recovery efforts after last week’s earthquake.
“We are committed to doing everything we can to help reunite families in Haiti during this very difficult time,” said Secretary Napolitano. “While we remain focused on family reunification in Haiti, authorizing the use of humanitarian parole for orphans who are eligible for adoption in the United States will allow them to receive the care they need here.”
Humanitarian parole into the United States may be granted by the Secretary of Homeland Security to bring otherwise inadmissible individuals into the country on account of urgent humanitarian reasons or other emergencies. The humanitarian parole policy announced by Secretary Napolitano today will be applied on a case-by-case basis to the following children:
Children who have been legally confirmed as orphans eligible for intercountry adoption by the Government of Haiti and are being adopted by U.S. citizens.
Children who have been previously identified by an adoption service provider or facilitator as eligible for intercountry adoption and have been matched to U.S. citizen prospective adoptive parents.
Under applicable laws, unaccompanied minors entering the country without a parent or legal guardian will be turned over to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Refugee Resettlement.
Today’s announcement expands the humanitarian relief that the U.S. Government is extending to Haitians in response to the devastation caused by the earthquake. Last week, Secretary Napolitano announced the designation of Temporary Protected Status for Haitian nationals who were physically present in the United States as of Jan. 12, 2010—allowing eligible Haitian nationals to continue living and working in the United States for the next 18 months. Those who attempt to travel to the United States after Jan. 12, 2010 will not be eligible for TPS and will be repatriated
More information about humanitarian parole and TPS is available at http://www.uscis.gov/ or by calling USCIS toll-free at (800) 375-5283. DHS encourages U.S. citizens with pending adoption cases in Haiti to send us detailed information about their cases to HaitianAdoptions@dhs.gov .

This is insane and wrong. The US needs to quit helping everyone else and tend to our own. So far the US is sending 200 million in aid while the other 6 Billion people in the world are only sending about 10 million. There are families and children in this country who are citizens who do not have some of the basics. Help the people here at home first!!! By helping and feeding all these countries that can not take care of themselves you are compounding the problem. 38% of the population in Haiti is under the age of 14 as they tend to start having kids at around 13 years old. Where do to rape by the rabid gangs or mere ignorance by artificially sustaining them and allowing them to breed further YOU are dooming more and more children to starvation and a terrible life. SHAME ON YOU!!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely NO politician should have been on this flight, especially Ed Rendell. Everything concerning bringing the orphans and the McMutrie sisters home should have been cleared PRIOR to the flight. The politicians are DEAD-WEIGHT and taking up a space better suited for a health care professional. Of course, the US Ambassador to Haiti wnated Rendell on the plane - it's POLITICAL.
ReplyDeleteAnd, before you liberals attack me.. Please, just please, justify WHY Rendell or Altmire needs to be on this airplane? Are EITHER qualified to perform ANY medical care (possibly) needed on infants?? Hmmmmm? ONLY medical professionals should be involved at this point.
Disagree? STFU.
For the record, I am NOT saying this flight should not have happened nor am I I saying these particular orphans should not be transported to the US. My big bugaboo is with having politicians on the flight instead of MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I'm a big fan of Ginny, having met her at LasVelas. She has done yeomans work here. (Is "yeomans" a word? If not, I hereby proclaim it as such.)
CM,
ReplyDeleteFirst, I won't STFU on my own blog, silly rabbit.
"Everything concerning bringing the orphans and the McMutrie sisters home should have been cleared PRIOR to the flight."
Have you been following along? They needed to get out yesterday, or the day before yesterday, or the day before that.
Moreover, the situtation on the ground is extremely volatile -- having someone high ranking on the flight like Rendell makes perfect sense to smooth over any potential last minute glitches.
From the Post-Gazette: ""The reason the governor is personally on the plane is that the Haitian ambassador thought it was important to have someone of his stature on the plane so if the mission ran into difficulty he might be able to break down some of the barriers," Mr. Tuma said.

Who the f are you to tell me to shut the f up? People might agree with part or all of what you say if you didn't order them to agree without any other discussion. You have opinions, I have opinions. I know you want to bully the rest of us with your business and your business degree. But as far as I am concerned all you do is show the lack of an open mind.
Not to mention that politics works. Face it folks we are political creatures and respond to authority. Having the governor of PA there (who...tho with many faults...has authority and commands a room) and a US congressman can serve a purpose.
ReplyDeletePolitics isn't inherently evil CM. It just is the way YOU practice it.
Yeah, the Governor will really be of assistance if needed (need a Cheeze-Steak sandwich?). You liberals are truly a work of art... missing my whole point... unless that's what you expect in the future for health care in this Country.. "help" from a politician.
ReplyDeleteEd..
ReplyDeleteSo, a statement from a POLITICAL appointee makes it OK.
OK.
Next time you need medical attention, call a politician.
CM, did you read the quote? Obviously not. Clearly the fact the Haitian ambassador requested something carries no weight with you, or you are calling the ambassador a liar, because it suits your purposes.
ReplyDeleteYou say you are a fan of Ginny Montanez, yet you want to dictate what kind of aid Jamie and Ali McMutrie receive. Because you are the expert, you are never wrong, and all Democrats/liberals are wrong simply by definition. You sure you don't want to kill off some orphans, like your buddy ToddAZ?
Until you apologize for telling me (and every other liberal) to STFU on your blog "Two Political Junkies", then you will pretty much have proved that you do hate helpless orphan babies. Just like you hate the poor in America.
CM,
ReplyDeleteFrom the P-G:
But after landing in Port-au-Prince early yesterday evening, the jetliner, which was only allowed to remain on the ground for two hours, was forced to depart before officials could resolve some documentation issues, said Gary Tuma, a spokesman for the governor.
Mr. Tuma said officials scrambled to secure another plane to bring the orphans back to Pittsburgh.
What? A last minute glitch? Who could have predicted that would happen in a crazy, devastated environment?
Good thing they only had doctors on board to resolve it and get a new plane STAT because that's what doctors do. (/snark)
