A Quick Note

Another report, another complication for the climate skeptics.

From the NYTimes:
A British panel on Wednesday exonerated the scientists caught up in the controversy known as Climategate of charges that they had manipulated their research to support preconceived ideas about global warming.

But the panel also rebuked the scientists for several aspects of their behavior, especially their reluctance to release computer files supporting their scientific work. And it declared that a chart they produced in 1999 about past climate was “misleading.”

The new report is the last in a series of investigations of leading British and American climate researchers, prompted by the release of a cache of e-mail messages that cast doubt on their conduct and raised fresh public controversy over the science of global warming.

All five investigations have come down largely on the side of the climate researchers, rejecting a number of criticisms raised by global-warming skeptics.
Of course this ain't over. This only raises the level of conspiracy for the climate skeptics. Undoubtedly they'll charge that the report's a whitewash and that they know the truth about "so called climate science" ("It's socialism," my friend Heather says.

But it's good to see anyway.

  1. Yeah, I meant to post on this, but haven't yet (might still). To be sure, there are some complicated questions raised by the investigating panels about freedom of information act requests to the CRU at UAE. The researchers feel that some (perhaps many) of the requests they get are made in bad faith, intended to waste the researcher's time and squander the government's money with requests for vast amounts of information that the requester will not understand anyway.

That said, it is more than likely the left either has used or still uses such tactics itself, for causes it opposes. And regardless of intent, a FOIA request should not be ignored or treated as unimportant.

However, these issues have nothing to do with climate science. The CRU was completely exonerated in this regard, and there is no evidence from these emails that climate change s a hoax. Further, I would say that the fact that conservatives and/or climate skeptics are more concerned with what information was stolen than with the fact the the privacy rights of climate scientists were f*cked with, speaks volumes about the integrity of conservatives.

It is, of course, all Bushes' fault.
