House Republicans help walk this child down the aisle
Via Talking Points Memo:
On Thursday night, hours before passing the tax cut compromise, House Republicans thwarted a bill that aimed to protect girls around the world from being coerced into child marriage. They opposed it because, they claimed, it might fund abortions.Apparently, they equate "health care services" with abortion which is why the party of "family values" voted for the rape of little girls. It doesn't matter to them that the countries that are pro child marriage are the same countries where legal abortions are nearly impossible to obtain. The anti abortion lobby must be bowed down to at all costs -- even for imaginary threats of abortion.
[snip]
The text of the bill does not mention abortion, contraception or family planning. Instead, it directs the president to make preventing child marriage a priority, especially in countries where more than 40 percent of girls under the age of 18 are married. The ways to do that, according to the bill: support educating communities on the dangers and health effects of child marriage, keep young girls in school, support female mentoring programs and make sure girls have access to health care services.
.
So, is this GOP supporting the rape of little girls going to be on the party platform at the next convention?
ReplyDeleteBetter thousands of little girls be forced into marriage to men a few times their age than one imaginary abortion not really occur!
ReplyDeleteIn the hours before the vote, Republicans circulated a memo to pro-life members of Congress alleging that the bill could fund abortions and use child marriage "to overturn pro-life laws." It also reiterated concerns over the bill's cost. When it came time for a vote, a number of the bill's pro-life supporters in both parties abandoned ship. Even co-sponsors of the corresponding House bill (H.R. 2103), like Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) and Lee Terry (R-Neb.), voted against it.
ReplyDeleteThose Dems are voting for the rape of little girls too!!!!! THE BASTARDS!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my God, they killed decency!...You bastards!
ReplyDeleteOn Pgh-Knights scales, one democrat=the house republican caucus.
ReplyDeleteOne? you sure you want to stick with that number?
ReplyDeleteJust pointing out that in the right-wing mind, if a single Democrat does anything, it absolves all Republicans who did the same thing of responsibility for their actions.
ReplyDeleteWhile most of the time I think of Neanderthal Man as being more developed than the GOP, there has been a twist to Medicare in Canada that might affect perceptions of what is likely were it more widely known.
ReplyDeleteAbortion necessary for the health and wellbeing of the patient is funded by the state. The trick here is that means any and all - as physicians are not about to let bureaucrats take over medical decisions which are private matters in any case and will never report that the patient's need is not served by the procedure ( which would obviously then be malpractice to perform such regardless ) .
The CMA is quite plain about its position.
