OWS-Pgh had a good run. It was responsible and respectful to the Park, and the City and the people.I hope that the transition from their highly visible location to their homes is done with dignity and continued respect for the law!
It's not the Cops marching in on a political whim, it's the LandOwner asserting ownership.
IF in fact they've closed the park due to liability in previous winters, it's hard to condemn the move.
In a way, it gives OWS-Pittsburgh a face-saving way to get off the street for winter, and perhaps to resume in the spring - nothing in the statement seems to preclude that.
If OWS-Pittsburgh leaves and they do in fact close the park for the winter, that's a pretty smooth move.
Eviction is a legal term that requires a process in front of the minor judiciary.
BYN mellon is saying please leave...pretty please or we are going to seek some legal relief...eviction implies OWS was in the park legally from the getgo and then failed to comply with the lease agreement...ain't so.....but as posted abv this is a face saving exit for them... if they choose to use it.
Don' t let the tent flap hit you in the ass on the way out...see you in the spring....things are not going to improve...sorry
I am still not sure about the Occupy movement and a new type of politics. But I have to say that otherwise we are now so corrupt, our system is so bound up by the cash moving through it that it seems we can't try the sort of dramatic measures these days that were done in the Great Depression. It turns out we spent not 800 billion but seven trillion to bail out the banks, but we can't maange a hundred billion more to help main street.
I don't want to hear about people succumbing to weather in the Occupy Pittsburgh camp. But I don't buy for a minute the idea that BNY Mellon is evicting out of concern. And we don't know how the cops will handle the removal yet. It certainly looks to me that corporations and the one percent are actually frightened by the Occupy movement, and are trying to stamp it out where ever it appears (like whack a mole with a neutron bomb) before it captures the attention/imagination of the general public.
After all, right now things really are out of whack. For honest Democrats (of which there seem to be fewer and fewer among national politicians) corporations are more of an enemy than their conservative stooges. When a majority of Americans realize that, look out.
I don't subscribe to the 99/1 division. Keep that perspective if you wish...it's just a catchy term that has a cachet with a tiny disaffected cabal. The vast majority are busy living their lives, not caught up in this OWS business. The corruption to which you refer has been a part of human affairs forever. Fortunately it is not a part of the lives of most.
Name-calling reflects a lack of pursuasive substance in your thinking.
The"cops" are not going create the OWS desired video...no Kent State moment.
No corporations are frightened...they are trying to manage their response to avoid a PR debacle.
President Newt will bring hope and change and fairness.
WD, I understand what you are saying, but numbers don't lie. People understand when their wages do not go up much at all for thirty years, when they either are out of work, and/or have/know relatives or neighbors who can't find work. People can read, and hear what the Occupy people are saying, which is verified by the media. You can say the one percent/ninety nine percent divide doesn't exist, but it is, in fact, simple numerical reality, and a larger divide than it has been since 1929 (pre-crash).
I mean, you're right, most of us are pretty far from any sort of political struggle, but for those who pay attention to the news, they see a Congress where all Republicans and many, maybe most Democrats are dedicated to doing nothing more than making the rich richer.
Yes, absolutely there has always been corruption, political and otherwise. But America used to pride itself that the corruption was (usually) the exception. Now it is fast becoming the rule in national and local politics. And I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but when Republican politicians and conservative commenters call for higher taxes on the poor and lower taxes on the rich, they are stooges in my opinion. I know of no economic theory that says that taking from the poor and giving to the rich is positive for the economy.
I have no idea for sure if the corporations are frightened by the Occupy movement or not. Even thought corporations are people, it is hard to read their emotions. But they do seem to be moving to crush the movement.
Maybe we will have a President Newt. Republicans and conservatives are so good at lying about Obama, time and time again, over and over, that maybe half or more of the country believe them. Tell me, do you really think the poor and people of color should suffer so rich white people can be more comfortable, or do you just not understand reality?
EH said "Maybe we will have a President Newt. Republicans and conservatives are so good at lying about Obama, time and time again, over and over, that maybe half or more of the country believe them."
EH direct me to the over and over, time and time again lies...not just political rhetoric/hype.
Why have most of his first group of economic advisors bailed...I think they opposed his policies and did not want to be associated with resulting failure to stimulate recovery.
He had both houses for two years...what has he to show for it? Obicare and huge deficit spending ....he will be ranked by historians as among the worst we have had.
Fast and furious. Eric Holder..hah! Now we know Kagan lied during her testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee...about her involvement with defending against an action brought by Mark Levin on the house machinations to push Obicare through.
He came out of the Illinois cesspool...and was never vetted by the MSM... Who has written about knowing him at Occidential, Columbia and HLS? there have been forensic literary exams of his books and there is ample evidence that Ayers wrote, if not edited, one or both.. Earlier on O denied knowing Ayers more than casually and never attended a fundraiser at his house...Ayers recently admitted the event occurred as reported. Michelle had a high paying do-nothing hospital position. O got federal dollars for the hospital...quid pro quo
Hunh WD, you didn't respond to the second sentence of the paragraph when you quoted the first sentence.
Still, first you question the basis of my statement that Obama has been lied about repeatedly, then you launch into a character attack of Obama.
Did you really want to make it that easy?
Give me some names of the people who conducted the "forensic literary exams" of Obama's books, and their evidence. And as for "Who has written about knowing him at Occidential, Columbia and HLS?" I have found, in the past, at least two articles that bear on that statement. Do your own research.
I would characterize both those statements as among the lies told about Obama repeatedly.
The bit about Obama's economic advisers leaving is silly, that sort of thing happens in every administration. The statement that the deficit and the Affordable Care Act (learn the names of laws, Obicare is an insulting term) are somehow going to be two things that will cause future historians to judge Obama as one of our worst is embarrassing for you. Historians will say that the United States finally joined the rest of the world in having at least a half assed universal health care plan, and historian will judge more harshly the small size of the stimulus causing unemployment to stay high for so long than the size of our deficit.
And as for having both chambers of Congress, what about the record number of Republican filibusters?
...phrases ...metaphors. Startling similarities to Ayers writings are to be found in BHO work... AS Sorensen wrote Profiles.. for JFK .... so O found a ghost writer Have any other writings been claimed by or attributed to O?
He was the editor of the HLR.. Did he publish a piece in there? Here's one that may have been his work...but was not attributed to him...is it the custom at HLR for editors not to write any pieces?
"I have always wondered why NO ONE ever came forward from Obama's past saying they knew him, attended school with him, was his friend, etc. NO ONE, not one person has ever come forward from his past. VERY VERY STRANGE.
This should really be a cause for great concern.
To those who voted for him, YOU HAVE ELECTED THE BIGGEST UNQUALIFIED FRAUD that America has ever known!
This is very interesting stuff. Sort of adds credence to the idea of The Manchurian Candidate thing having happened here! Stephanopoulos of ABC news said the same thing during the 08' campaign. He too was a classmate of BO's at Columbia class of 1984. He said he never had one class with him.
Was he there?
While he is such a great orator, why doesn't anyone in Obama's college class remember him? Maybe he never attended class! Maybe he never attended Columbia? He won't allow Colombia to release his records either. Suspicious isn't it???
NOBODY REMEMBERS OBAMA AT COLUMBIA !!!!!!!
Looking for evidence of Obama's past, Fox News contacted 400 Columbia University students from the period when Obama claims to have been there, but none remembered him.
Wayne Allyn Root was, like Obama, a political science major at Columbia who also graduated in 1983. In 2008, Root says of Obama, "I don't know a single person at Columbia that knew him, and they all know me. I don't have a classmate who ever knew Barack Obama at Columbia. Ever! Nobody recalls him. I'm not exaggerating, I'm not kidding.
Root adds that he was also, like Obama, "Class of '83 political science, pre-law" and says, "You don't get more exact or closer than that. Never met him in my life, don't know anyone who ever met him.
At the class reunion, our 20th reunion five years ago, who was asked to be the speaker of the class? Me. No one ever heard of Barack! And five years ago, nobody even knew who he was. The guy who writes the class notes, who's kind of the, as we say in New York , the macha who knows everybody, has yet to find a person, a human who ever met him. Is that not strange?"
It's very strange. "Obama's photograph does not appear in the school's yearbook and Obama consistently declines requests to talk about his years at Columbia , provide schoolrecords, or provide the name of any former classmates or friends while at Columbia."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Allyn_Root
NOTE: Root graduated as Valedictorian from his high school, Thornton-Donovan School, then graduated from Columbia University in 1983 as a Political Science major (in the same class as President Barack Obama WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN IN).
