One from
a prominent Democrat:
During an appearance on the “Tonight Show” Wednesday, President Obama condemned Indiana Republican Senate nominee Richard Mourdock’s recent comments claiming pregnancies from rape are part of God’s plan.
“I don’t know how these guys come up with these ideas,” Obama said. “Let me make a very simple proposition. Rape is rape. It is a crime. And so these various distinctions about rape don’t make too much sense to me — don’t make any sense to me. The second thing this underscores, though, is this is exactly why you don’t want a bunch of politicians, mostly male, making decisions about women’s health care decisions.”
And one from
a prominent Republican:
“Specifically where you stand when it comes to rape, and when it comes to the issue of should it be legal for a woman to be able to get an abortion if she’s raped?” WJHL reporter Josh Smith wondered.
“I’m very proud of my pro-life record, and I’ve always adopted the idea that, the position that the method of conception doesn’t change the definition of life,” [Representative Paul] Ryan explained.
For a pro-life candidate, one who feels that life begins at conception, that means...
“Let me make a very simple proposition. Rape is rape. It is a crime.
ReplyDeleteUnless the consensual rape (not Rape-Rape) of progressive european film genius Roman Polański but not the false exonerations in the Hofstra and Duke Lacrosse Rape cases where they falsely claimed the victims lied using manufactured evidence.
HttT,
ReplyDeleteShow me anywhere on this blog where either David or I have defended Polanski. You can't because we haven't. The closest mention would be this post where I gave an RIP to Gore Vidal, then updated it with a link to another progressive blog which condemned his excuses for Polanski (which I hadn't heard about until after my post). You'll certainly find some in the Old Boy Hollywood network who will defend Polanski, but you won't find any defense of him on any real feminist blogs.
As for the Duke Lacrosse case, neither of us wrote on that either. I didn't because I felt the facts weren't all in -- I suspect David didn't write about it for the same reasons. Can you find some who did believe the women -- yes, including the police. So what's your point?
Neither of these cases are about men saying stupid shit about rape and abortion -- and these same men being the ones who have some say in making laws about abortion.
But keep dangling those shiny keys...
I never posted on Roman Polanski - so HTTT is wrong in point one.
ReplyDeleteAnd I never posted on the Duke Lacrosse team either - so he's 0 for 2.
AKA - he's a complete loser.
But that ain't a surprise.
Actually, I will say that to say that life is life, and should ended just because it started because of a rape or incest, is at least consistent. However, to then turn around and support the death penalty and war basically invalidates everything one might say about abortion. I mean, supporting the death penalty involves passing judgment on someone else, saying that we can substitute our judgment for God's.
ReplyDeleteI assume that is what HTTT is saying, that he is fit to decide who can live and who should die.
Oops, that was supposed to read "life is life, and should not ended just because it started because of a rape or incest,"
