Just another mass shooting in the U.S. with over a dozen dead and many more injured. But, hey! What did the Pope say to Kim Davis? And, what's the latest on Trump? And, damn it, keep those dangerous Syrian refugees out of my town!!!
("This is the 45th shooting at a school in 2015 and the 142nd shooting since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut." - ThinkProgress)
You forgot to include the number of days since the last "mass shooting".

Wrong. Wrong. Very wrong:
ReplyDelete"That brings the total of mass shootings this year -- incidents where 4 or more people are killed or injured by gunfire -- to 294...There have been only 274 days this year."
Using that BS criteria, this is a mass shooting by the NYPD

That's been the accepted definition since the FBI first came up with it.
ReplyDeleteYou are using the definition from the Mass Shooting Tracker not the FBI.
ReplyDelete"The tracker draws some criticism because its definition is broader than the FBI's definition, which requires three or more people to be killed by gunfire. But the broader definition is nonetheless a useful one, because it captures many high-profile instances of violence — like the Lafayette theater shootings — that don't meet the FBI's criteria."
Again, the FBI originally came up with that definition and it was used by them for many years.
ReplyDeleteIn anycase, WHO CARES about the exact definition of a "mass killing?" Either criteria still represents a horrific amount of senseless violence.
