ABC AWOL ON PVT RYAN

More than 20 ABC television affiliates will pre-empt the network's Veterans Day broadcast of Steven Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan" because they fear the film's violence and profanity leave them vulnerable to hefty fines from the Federal Communications Commission, according to a published report.

This includes Pittsburgh ABC affiliate WTAE...even though the movie was shown on broadcast TV in 2001.

So why not show it now?

Perhaps "everything has changed" after Janet's breast.

Perhaps we just don't want impressionable young people seeing the actual violence of war. I mean how are you going to recruit them for Bush's next war after that?
