A Small Price

Check out what REPUBLICAN Congressman John Boehner had to say about the cost of dubya's war in Iraq:

There's a transcript at Talkingpointsmemo:

BLITZER: How much longer will U.S. taxpayers have to shell out $2 billion a week or $3 billion a week as some now are suggesting the cost is going to endure? The loss in blood, the Americans who are killed every month, how much longer do you think this commitment, this military commitment is going to require?

BOEHNER: I think General Petraeus outlined it pretty clearly. We’re making success. We need to firm up those successes. We need to continue our effort here because, Wolf, long term, the investment that we’re making today will be a small price if we’re able to stop al Qaeda here, if we’re able to stabilize the Middle East, it’s not only going to be a small price for the near future, but think about the future for our kids and their kids.

To which Greg Sargent adds:

This is an obvious point, but it bears making again, anyway: It's really uncanny how often those who aren't sacrificing anything for the Iraq war, aside for perhaps their health in the polls, are willing to...

(a) Describe the very real sacrifice being made by others as not being such a big deal

...while simultaneously...

(b) Describing the sacrifice others are making as their own.

Leave it to a Republican to say that as of 9/13/07, 3,768 confirmed American deaths (not to mention the tens of thousands injured or maimed) are a "small price" to pay.

  1. bill o'rielly said just about the same damn thing. i think they should all just go over to the nearest recruitment center and enlist. i'm sure they have enough friends in high places that they can join with no regard to their age or mental stablity.

  2. John K. says: Well one thing is for sure, all you liberals yelling about sacrifice, I see none of it on your part. I do see hinderance. Kucinich in Syria bad mouthing us and then the NY Times ad. So it strikes me as amusing that liberals are whining about lack of support when they actively plot to sabotage the effort. Sen. Clinton never has disavowed the NY Times ad. So let's hear it one more time lefties, just for amusement sake. Tell us how you support the troops and are patriots. LOL LOL That is the funniest part. LOL

  3. Even though John is off-topic and ridiculous as usual, I must agree with him about one thing. I don't know what Kucinich was thinking. Only Republicans are allowed to go to Syria. Everybody knows that.

Meanwhile, the money continues to pour out of taxpayer pockets into Dick Cheney's, and the blood continues to flow out of our brave soldiers thanks to a whole buncha people who never served a day in their lives.

And John (Shameless) K. keeps laughing at the troops as they die. As Spicoli must have said at some point, "Pretty fuckin' funny."

  4. And can politicians PLEASE stop using the phrase "blood and treasure" when they are referring to the costs of the Iraq war?!?

Damn it, it's not blood, it's American (and Iraqi) lives!

And it's not "treasure"!! That makes it sound like we found the loot on the island before Jack Sparrow and the Black Pearl. It's our f-ing hard earned money that goes to pay taxes! Let's call it like it is and stop trying to wax poetic about it!!!

    That really chaps my ass...

  5. John K. says: Remember Kucinich went to Syria using my tax dollars. And of course he went on 9-11. And of course, while there, he bad mouthed the United States. All on tax dollars. And of course he endorsed Syria and their support of terrorism. Which Republican did this again?
Hey, run another NY Times ad. That last one worked so well. LOL LOL Too easy.

  6. Yes, 600,000 human lives (Johns Hopkins' SIS estimate) is such a "small price." Yes, American word being damaged for a generation is such a "small price." And yes, $1,000,000,000,000 is such a "small number."

  7. John K says: Glad you agree the bag of health. You lefties seem to think life is free. Heck, Bin Laden (Dem-Paki) doesn't even believe that and he is the spokesperson for your party. Hey, did you see the Democrats in congress. In full retreat over after the testimony of Gen. Petreaus. Run another Moveon.org ad at discount prices in the NY Times. We own you. LMAO

  8. I do not agree with your bullshit, John. Rich fools like the Congressman think that the war doesn't cost that much because they and their friends haven't been asked to give anything. In fact, they got reckless tax cuts that created a massive budget deficit. Real "conservative" there.

  9. John K. says: Breaking News: I got and advance copy of the President's speech for tonight. (You should thank God I am on this blog with this info) Anyway, he has a short message for you left wing Democrats. "We are going to win this war in Iraq and against terrorism despite your best efforts to prevent that from happening. Since we can't count on any of you to help we won't. So if you don't mind, go back to smoking your dope and please stay out of the way. The grown-ups in this country have work to do."

  10. John K. says: To bag of health--You are confusing National Debt with the Deficit. Two different issues. National deficit was reported today as dropping. Tax cuts are bringing in more revenue than predicted.
Listen, will you lefties please do some research. This is too easy. Pay attention to tonight's Presidential address lefties. See post above.

  11. I think what Kucinich did was reprehensible. Going to Syria and badmouthing America on the tax-payers dime.

    Disgusting.

But you know what REALLY gets me mad? Cowardly lib'rul types who don't stand up and denounce Kucinich's lack of the proper red-meat American patriotism.

Like this guy - when asked about the Kucinich's trip this particular congressman responded with a back-stabbing flip-flopping weak-kneed politically safe:

REP. BOEHNER: Well, we're Americans. We're Americans; we're protected under a Bill of Rights. And one of those protections is the right to free speech. I think that success in Iraq is absolutely critical for our national interest and absolutely critical for our national security, both in the short term and frankly for the future of my kids and their kids. And I believe strongly that what we're doing here in Iraq, taking on al Qaeda, taking on the Iranians, will in fact serve America's best national interest and help provide the kind of national security that I think Americans want today and for tomorrow.

Q So you believe that what Congressman Kucinich is saying is free speech protected under the Bill of Rights?

REP. BOEHNER: It's protected. I may disagree with it, but I think he has the right to do what he wants to do.

Wait, who's this Boehner-guy? I'm sure he's a member of the Democrat Party

  12. John K. says: Good another lefty who has seen the light and agrees with me that what Kucinich did was horrific. One convert at a time. It's hard work but someone has to do it.

  13. John K. says: I hope you lefties are happy with your treason. I'm going to settle in and watch FOX and eat a baby.
