Wow!

I found a link to this at crooks and liars.

Did you know that gays control the Pittsburgh City Council?

Thus spake Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern:

Listen at about 1:36 in where she says:

Gays are infiltrating city councils. Did you know-- Eureka Springs, anybody been there? For the Passion Play? Ok? Have you heard that the City Council of Eureka Springs is now controlled by gays? Ok? There are some others. Uh, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania...

And so on...

Who knew that Bruce Kraus was wielding such power? I mean if some conservative State Rep in Oklahoma sez so, you know it's gotta be true, right??

  1. Oh Lordy! Next they'll be forcing us to have abortions, burn the American flag, watch Bravo, wear assless leather chaps, and worship Satan!

When will this Gay mafia terror end!?!

    *faints... fabulously*

  2. Perhaps someone should explain to Sally Kern that civil unions or even gay marriage WOULD NOT BE MANDATORY!

I don't think she understands this, and I don't think she can reason it through without assistance.

A dim bulb, that one. Even by wingnut standards.

  3. I do not want Bruce Kraus to speak for me. Rather, I want Bruce Kraus and others who are elected to insure that every individual has the freedom to speak.

The freedom to speak is just the first in a long list, of course.

Protecting that freedom -- those rights -- are what matters, not speaking for me.

    Good find, by the way.

When it comes to Pittsburgh, I think she was talking about that 'toe hold' concept. I can't defend that BS (in the YouTube audio). However, the listing of Pittsburgh is the followed with a description. And, it isn't about 'controlling City Council.'

    No 'Wow' here.

Hers is a good way to sum up what we have in councilman Kraus. He is like a 'toe hold' on council. That is a fitting nick-name.

BTW, do you know why TEXAS does NOT fall into the Gulf?

    OK sucks.

    :)

  5. There were preprinted postcards at the end of the pew in church this week that we could use to notify our state rep of our feelings on the civil union issue. I am a hypocrite for attending church. I am pro-choice and pro civil union.

Did anyone notice her undergrad degree is in Sociology??

Worse yet she's a teacher. She's right they are teaching our kids horrible and immoral things in the classroom. Or at least they were while she was teaching.

You want to be even more frightened, go watch Jesus Camp. I'd watch it again but the Devil has infiltrated my children and they want me to read them some more Harry Potter...

  7. The GAYS are coming!! The GAYS are coming!! Hide the young children or the liberals will give them free needles and condoms and let them loose in the orgy rooms that they are secretly building in our public schools with your Christians for War money.
Republicans, Libertarians and Zealots... OH MY!

  8. This is a comparison that will probably be lost on most Americans, but listening to this woman reminds me strikingly of an Australian has-been politician by the name of Pauline Hanson. Pauline was a constant source of foot-in-mouth quotes and racist hatred when we lived down there.

I think it was the part where she said something about the way the gay agenda is "taking over our nation". If only she had said it with a Queensland accent, it would have been a pitch-perfect imitation of Pauline Hanson.

  9. Well, "the gays" couldn't do any worse than any of the other yo-yos who've been running the 'Burgh.

  10. Hold the phone, Jennifer. This woman is speaking as a politician. She is NOT a teacher in this realm.

To link the political chatter with the classroom performance is wrong.

People need to be able to wear different hats in different settings in our real world.

Furthermore, the "R,L,Z Oh My" goofy crack (other post above) is crazy too. Libertarians are all about live and let live. 'Oh my' to the ignorant. The YouTube clip showed plenty -- and sadly -- so do some of the knee jerk reactions above.

  11. Look... I lived in the South, they had BUSH signs IN the classrooms and preachers preaching politics. That's the real world. Libertarians only live and let live because government interferes with business and money, not the social agenda. Unless your a liberal libertarian that is.

    Sincerely,

  12. I just received Doug Shields Response to Sally Kern:

    Ms. Kern:

Today I listened to your remarks (http://www.victoryfund.org/listening. ) related to your views on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people (GLBT). I was thoroughly disgusted by what you had to say and astonished that someone who presumably took an oath of office to uphold the U.S. Constitution and the laws of this nation would espouse hateful, bigoted and un-American views.

I sit here in my office and only wonder who else might be on your "less equal" list. I also wonder, if we should follow your illogic, what it is we should do about this "threat" to the nation? Round them up and put them in extermination camps? How would you have us "cut out this cancer" assuming we do away with our Constitution and Bill of Rights and host of other civil rights we enjoy in this free and democratic nation? Of course you always have the option to relocating to a country that embraces polices of persecuting those who are "less equal." But then AGAIN, you to may run the risk of being persecuted yourself.

Your remarks, whether you know it are not, provided an incredible display of ignorance and intolerance. You incite others to cause harm and even death to those who are of the GLBT community. New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned his office for far less an offense than the ones you committed in your remarks. I would hope that you too would recognize your offense and do likewise - resign.

I find no place at the table for a public policy maker who would espouse hate, discrimination and bigotry. Your remarks amply illustrate why you are unfit for office and the honor of representing the best interests of all law abiding people in your legislative district.

As the President of the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, I require an apology from you for your senseless, mean spirited attack on one my colleagues and the Council as a whole. I would think, should you take the time to reflect upon your hateful, bigoted words. An apology is also in order to the GLBT community, their families and their friends. Short of a a miracle, I do not expect that you will. I find persons of your ilk completely blind to your ignorance.

I any event, I would hope that the fair-minded people of Oklahoma will disavow your position in this matter and take the matter up with your state human relations and ethics commission. I would also ask that your legislature censure you and all other hate mongers who truly are a threat to peace loving and law-abiding Americans everywhere.

    Sincerely,

    Douglas A. Shields

  13. Imagine if Mean ol Sally's remarks were focused upon people of color, jews, or some other folks who Mean ol Sally found "less equal" than her.

It would be on the network news and the net work satellite trucks would have descended upon Oaklahoma City. The legislature there has refused to disavow such lunacy from one of thier members.

Unfortunately, homosexuals in the US political game are still fair game for pin headed right wing religious nut jobs like Mean ol Sally.

I am glad the PG at least published a story on Council President Shields' letter to mean ol Sally. But where was the national press in this and similar attacks on the GLBT community?
