Scenes From The Tiller Vigil

My friend Sue is at the Tiller vigil. Some photos:

Sue's updates:

7:30 - I am at Penn and Highland for Dr. Tiller's vigil. Somber mood. About 30 people. KDKA is here

7:43 - Now up to 60 people. Speakers beginning. KDKA and WPXI are here.

7:45 - Probably close to 80. Location not ideal because noisy street. Solemnity is palpable. Very diverse crowd including many men.

8:05 - Sue Frietsche. This is political terror. Want to extinguish pro-choice movement. This instills fear in all clinic staff n volunteers.

8:10 - Really diverse crowd around many lines. Speakers n crowd choked up over the real threat this poses to women seeking abortion and supporters

8:12 - Probably 100 people now. News still here. I am trying to stay in the moment but hard without hearing speakers.

8:14 - I see nearly a dozen children here all born well after Roe v Wade.

8:38 - Jon robison leading song "we are a gently angry people singing for our lives"

8:39 - Breaking up. Very moving. People embracing. Still needing the moment of togetherness

On the News Hour, a commentator from a religious news organization pointed out you have this juxtaposition between Obama calling for moderation and this killing. In the battle for moderate voters, this has got to be a net setback for the pro-life people.

The rhetoric from the anti-choice community is appalling. Most individual people I know who identify as pro-life, however, are upset with this turn of events and uneasy with the position that it was a justifiable homicide.
