Not All Lawyers Are Awful

From the AP, tonight:
The country's largest lawyers' group has backed a resolution calling on all state legislatures to let same-sex couples get married.

The American Bar Association voted at its annual meeting Tuesday in San Francisco to support the measure sponsored by the New York State Bar Association.

New York State Bar Association President Stephen P. Younger says the resolution passed overwhelmingly, with only one speaker voicing opposition during debate.

The ABA's approval comes days after a federal judge in San Francisco struck down California's voter-approved same-sex marriage ban. Younger says the timing of the ABA's vote is a coincidence.
And the resolution:
RESOLVED, That the American Bar Association urges state, territorial, and tribal governments to eliminate all of their legal barriers to civil marriage between two persons of the same sex who are otherwise eligible to marry.
Good for them.

The entire resolution can be found here.

  1. I can already see this debate blowing up nationally. They had a rally here in Raleigh NC yesterday. But apparently more people turned out in support of same-sex marriage than against it! So here's to hoping.

  2. I am a lawyer, and conservative... and I am all for same-sex marriage.

Opens up a whole new market segment: Same-Sex Divorce.

  3. I think Pgh_Knight might be on to something. Stimulate the economy by legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide. Their honeymoons would benefit the tourism industry, there would be a huge influx of purchasing for wedding presents, hotels and halls would benefit from the receptions and the local governments would benefit from extra revenue from marriage licenses.

  6. I will repeat, at least one more time, the funny bit I heard some comedian do.

If an average American family goes to the beach, how do they look? Overweight mom and dad, haggard and pale, kids screaming at them for this and that. If you happen to see a gay couple at the beach (let's say two men), what do you see? Tan, muscular guys looking relaxed.

Let's let the gay people get married and adopt or whatever. We want to drag them down to our (meaning straight people's) level, haggard, pale, poor diet and screamed at.

On a different note, I've been deleting Asian porn spam? My God, what have I done?
