Sharron Angle makes my brain hurt

US Senate candidate from Nevada Sharron Angle on false idols via Crooks and Liars:

Transcript:
"And these programs that you mentioned -- that Obama has going with Reid and Pelosi pushing them forward -- are all entitlement programs built to make government our God. And that's really what's happening in this country is a violation of the First Commandment. We have become a country entrenched in idolatry, and that idolatry is the dependency upon our government. We're supposed to depend upon God for our protection and our provision and for our daily bread, not for our government."

"And I knew that all along when I started praying over a year ago over it. And this just seemed to be the battle that I needed to go to war with. And I need warriors to stand beside me. You know, this is a war of ideology, a war of thoughts and of faith. And we need people to really stand for faith and trust, not hope and change."

  1. Except for health care reform, I can't think of any new social welfare programs that have come out in the Obama administration (and I am not sure that HCR even qualifies in that regard).

You know, a theocracy based on Christianity would be fun. It would be impossible to have trials. At the voir dire, the defense attorney would simply stand and say "let he who is without sin cast the first stone" and the jury would slink away like the disgusting sinners that they are. This would be repeated until the government decided it would simply be easier to let the defendant go.

Prostitution and gambling are legal in Nevada, and Sharon Angle is complaining that social welfare programs are making government "our God" (I assume it is social welfare, although maybe she is annoyed by the inspector general of the highway department). Reminds me of something I read somewhere about a mote or speck in my brother's eye... where did I read that? Who could have said that?

Ah, it's going to bother me all day. Larry Niven? Nah, someone before Niven wrote his book.

  2. These people are effing nuts.

She also opposes abortion in cases of rape, incest, and life of the mother.

Again - these people are nuts. Religious extremists.

Think about it - where else in the world do you see people showing up at political rallies with guns? where else in the world do you see people infuse their politics with adherence to strict religious dogma?

  3. Jesus feeding the multitude.

What's he do? He takes the fish and the loaves and...redistributes them so that all may eat.

    Socialist.

  4. Ms. "Right" Angle is using Pittsburgh's own John Brabender to help spin her painfully insane agenda. He seems to draw "teh crazies" like few other consultants -- until they end up disgraced or in the clink!
