Merely Thinking It Does Not Make It So...

Some recent poll data.

When asked:
Do you believe that the following statement is true or not true? "Iraq had weapons of mass destruction when the United States invaded in 2003."
62.9% of Republicans said "true."

Even though it wasn't.  They must've been uninformed.

When asked whether this statement is true:
I have always believed President Obama was born in another country.
55.6% of Republicans said yes.  And it's actually 63% when you include the Republicans who said:
I used to think President Obama was born in the United States, but now I think he was born in another country.
Even though he wasn't.  They must've been uninformed about that, too.

So...just how uninformed are they?

  1. You know, the Iraqis did use mustard gas on the Iranians during their war, and nerve gas on the Kurds, all pre-Gulf War. And, despite the efforts of the inspectors after the Gulf War until 1998 and again right before the invasion, some 500 chemical weapon shells were found scatter and buried around Iraq, most seemingly forgotten. The shells were apparently degraded and not useful for military purposes, but might have been useful to terrorists (that Saddam Hussein generally had no contact with). I mean, even if it is ten years old and supposedly degraded, would you want to be in the room when a shell with nerve gas was opened up?

    Not me.

But those are a lot of caveats, and in any event the business about where Obama was born is simply cut and dried.

Fox News and the rest of the right wing noise machine is pretty successful.
