Does Rick Santorum Agree With Rick Scarborough?

I found this this morning via atrios and then the HuffingtonPost. Max Blumenthal writes:
I've been stunned at how long it took a prominent member of the Christian right to blame the destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina on America's cultural decadence and immorality. Finally, Rick Scarborough of Vision America and the Judeo-Christian Council for Constitutional Restoration has stepped up to the plate, blaming Katrina on gay marriage, man-on-horse sex, and Israel for evacuating a portion of the Messiah's planned landing strip.
Blumenthal quotes the Reverend Scarborough as saying recently:
After September 11, 2001, "God bless America" was on everyone's lips. But what, exactly, are we asking God to bless - a nation moving a breakneck speed toward homosexual marriage, a nation awash in pornography, a nation in which our children are indoctrinated in perversion in the public schools, a nation in which most public displays of The Ten Commandments are considered offensive to the Constitution, a nation in which the elite does all in its considerable power to efface our Biblical heritage?

We are sowing the wind. Surely, we shall reap the whirlwind.
From Israel to California's change in definition of marriage (from "man and woman" to "two persons") to the fact that only a handful of states actually has a law against bestiality, nothing is outside of the Reverend's view that "we are bringing disaster upon ourselves."

But that's not the big story here. It seems that the JCCCR is having an upcoming conference dedicated to "countering the war on faith." This is from the on-line brochure:

Are you

  • disgusted by Hollywood's attacks on Judeo-Christian ethics?
  • outraged by media slander of Christians?
  • incensed by judicial assaults on Americans' right to publicly acknowledge God?
  • sick and tired of seeing our children indoctrinated in the homosexual lifestyle?

Learn how and why the left is relentlessly attacking people of faith - and how to stop it!

Now I ask you, dear friends, are there any Pennsylvania politicians who would be feel comfortable being in the company of a man of the cloth who rails against homosexuality and bestiality--all at the same time?

Think for a while and then take a look at the list of confirmed speakers for this conference.

Yes, it's our own junior Senator, Rick Santorum. And he's on the top of the list.

Here's what the Senator has posted on his own website:
My wife Karen and I would like to send our prayers and heartfelt condolences to all of those who have been affected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. While traveling throughout our state this week, I have heard from so many Pennsylvanians who are deeply concerned about the millions of Americans in need of assistance in the wake of this horrific catastrophe that has struck our nation.
But wait! That really doesn't sound like he feels that Katrina was part of God's wrath, does it?

So maybe someone should ask the Senator why he's speaking at a conference run by an organization that does.
