Rick Santorum's "Cease Fire"

I don't think Rick Santorum really understand's the meaning of the phrase "cease-fire."

First let's take a look at what dictionary.com has to say about the term. There are three definitions given there.

An order to stop firing.
Suspension of active hostilities; a truce.

And finally

a state of peace agreed to between opponents so they can discuss peace terms [syn: armistice, truce]

And what does Lil Ricky have to say? The lede from an article in today's P-G:

U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., argued yesterday that there should be no cease-fire in Lebanon until Israel defeats Hezbollah.

How (and more importantly why) would you discuss "peace terms" with an enemy you've already defeated? I guess that a defeat for Hezbollah would in effect be a "cease fire" - just not in the way that most people mean it.

In the words of Inigo Montoya, after he hears the genius Vizzini repeat the word "inconcievable" for the umpteenth time:

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Oh well, let's hope that after November Lil Ricky will have lotsa time to crack open a dictionary.
