PA House Bill 288

Stand up for EVERY WOMAN IN EVERY HOSPITAL!

What's at stake:

House Bill 288 requires all Pennsylvania hospitals to provide information and access to emergency contraception medication to rape victims if they request it.

There are opportunities both to delay and keep this legislation progressing; please ask your legislator to do his or her part in continuing the momentum of this bill in the House.

There are some attacks on the horizon: please urge your House member to oppose measures that would allow some hospitals to withhold this standard of care -- EVERY WOMAN, EVERY HOSPITAL.

An amendment may be offered by the bill's sponsor, Representative Daylin Leach, if so, this amendment is a viable compromise and should be supported by the legislature.

This bill has now passed in eight other states across the nation, and it has neither gone to court or caused any hospital to close its doors.

It is crucial to emphasize how important it is for this bill not only to be passed, but for a comprehensive, intact version of the bill to come before a House vote!

The group of women most likely to have abortions are rape victims who become pregnant from their attackers. Emergency room availability of this medication would significantly decrease the number of abortions by preventing unwanted pregnancies as a result of a sexual assault.
