What are the chances that I'd get a mailing from the "City of Pittsburgh Department of Environmental Works Bureau of Environmental Services" ostensibly about recycling
the day before an election that for some reason has a picture of Lil Mayor Luke Ravenstahl on it plugging the "Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's Response Line"?
The answer is 100%
What does the 311 line have to do with garbage other than to provide an excuse to put Lukey's pic out there one more time the day before the election?
The answer is nothing.
UPDATE: Here's the pics:
I think this kind of crap is even more blatant than using legislative/administrative staffers for campaign work. This is a total waste of the governments money. Also, it's not like Luke actually needs to spend the government's money on his election efforts. He has a half million in the bank for crying out loud!
ReplyDeleteIt's just like like the 7 months late "tax bill reciept" I got from our wonderful County Treasurer, John Weinstein. John's office runs so efficiently that they waited 7 months, until 6 days before the election to mail out my reciept. Of course, It was plastered with John's name all over it and an offer to do everything but wash my car.
ReplyDeleteI feel so much better knowing that such an upstanding individual keeps tabs on our millions of dollars. What a relief!
Pics! Post pics!
ReplyDeleteThe reason for the mailing -- it would appear from the black-and-white text that you apparently did not read -- is to inform you of a pilot recycling program in your neighborhood. Those who live in neighborhoods unaffected by the recycling program (such as myself) can tell you that we did not receive this mailing. So it is obviously not a stealth campaign mailer from the City.
ReplyDeleteJust about all official mailings from the City feature the 311 label and the mayor's picture, just as mailings and official signs in just about every city will feature something gimmicky from the mayor. And just as roadsigns welcoming you to Pennsylvania say "Ed Rendell, Governor" (and if Mark DeSantis gets his way, they will say "Bill Scranton, Governor" starting roundabout 2011). Ravenstahl's official mailings have been nothing like the mailings I received as a result of the clearly-abused franking privileges of DeSantis's Republican co-thinker, Michael Diven, back when that oaf was in the state legislature and running for state senate and then re-election.
This is nowhere close to a "scandal," and the strained attempts of the lot of you self-important nitwits in the "Burghosphere" to find a scandal under every rock -- and to be the next minor local celebrity like John McIntire, bravely "speaking truth to power" -- are becoming so boring that you are indeed making headway for your man DeSantis, because Democrats and progressive voters in the city are at increased risk of suicide every time we have to listen to or read your eager attempts at local famewhoredom.
Sartre could have written a play about a man condemned to an eternity of reading your blog.
Well, apparently you must be a masochist to be here so why not go back now to getting your whipping.
ReplyDeleteHello, PGH Red! It's good to see that you still don't want to address the issues. I am hopeful for tomorrow. I think it might be a good day for the region.
ReplyDeleteI want a Constitutional amendment passed which will make it illegal for any politician to have their name attached to any sign, gas pump, letter or other official communication.
ReplyDeleteThe Luke thing is ridiculous of course (his consistent stupidity is well founded now...) but I also don't want to see the head of the County weights and measures department on every gas pump and I really don't want the Governor's name on every "Welcome to PA!" sign. Who cares...other than the pol and their party...
Is it any wonder that people dislike politicians so much?
Pilt
For the record, not all mayors in all cities plaster their face and name on everything and anything.
ReplyDeleteAnd, none do it as much as Lil Mayor Luke does.
Unless you're talking about Cuba or China under Mao.
