I gotta ask, is there any doubt that the media's coverage of Senator Gram calling Americans "whiners" will end long before the media stops its ranting on Reverend Wright or Jesse Jackson or Pennsylvania's "bitter" rural residents?
I mean Senator McCain has already distanced himself from his own economic advisor? Take a look: But didn't Senator Obama distance himself from Reverend Wright? Did that stop the wailing and knashing of teeth among God's Own Party and their allies in the media?
Of course not.
Via talkingpointsmemo, there's more going on in this story. According to Sam Stein at the Huffingtonpost, the McCain camp initially stood by Gramm's obnoxiousness:
It was only after the things looked really bad did theyThe McCain campaign is working hard to distance itself from statements made by economic adviser Phil Gramm describing the current economic downturn as a "mental recession" and saying America had "sort of become a nation of whiners."
But in an initial statement published by Politico and then, seemingly, removed from its site, a McCain campaign aide actually stood by Gramm's remarks, saying the interview as a whole was merely meant as a preview of the Senator's economic agenda.
For what it's worth, Gramm (great lovable guy that he is) isn't backtracking:
Though he's trying to pull his own butt out of the fire by saying he was misquoted and that he meant the nation's leaders were the whiners."I'm not going to retract any of it. Every word I said was true," Gramm said.
Yea right, Phil. That'll work. You were misquoted.
Whiner.
seeing as gramm helped to cause this mess and made big bucks for himself and people like ken lay AND that mccain said he thought gramm was a finacial/economic genius, well says a lot about them both.
ReplyDeleteWhat a dismal week so far for McCain...and Gramm refusing to back off his comments, instead choosing to 'explain.' What a gift for the Obama campaign.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see you folks put up the video where he is completely lost trying to respond to questions about Fiorina's comments regarding insurance coverage for Viagra but not birth control...of course he couldn't...he voted against extending insurance coverage for birth control!
He is an absolutely pathetic Presidential candidate.
John K: Yah this recession is so real that PNC Park was jammed full to SRO for a baseball game. Plus they had to buy gas at $4.10 a gallon to drive there as well as pay for parking. Earlier in the year they were shelling out $528 for a ticket to see one Penguin game. Yepper, this recession is real. LOL LOL LOL LMAO stop whining Jaywillie, you are Hans Solo and not a Wookie. LOL LOL
ReplyDeleteIf there is nothing else you can say about the right wing, they are at least consistent. They never let data or facts get in the way.
ReplyDelete- There WERE WMDs in Iraq
- The Chinese ARE drilling off the coast of Florida
- Former Guantanomo inmates ARE back in the fray killing Americans
- Global warming is NOT real and, even if it is, humans have NOTHING to do with it
- Abstinence education DOES work
- We HAVE to drill in ANWR, even though the oil companies have other federal land with oil supplies that they have not tapped
The list goes on and on. Black is white. Up is down. Say it enough, and it becomes gospel, and the "liberal" media play along.
John K: Oh but there were WMDs in Iraq. We just got done removing 550 (holy cow 550) tons of yellow cake from Iraq to Canada for disposal. And no jaywillie yellow cake is not the snow you eat in the winter. LOL
ReplyDeleteSome of the material moved to Russia and some to Syria. But as of now there are no WMDs in Iraq that is for sure.
Yep, if we could drill in ANWR along with the Gulf Coast we could have oil on line in 8 to 18 months. The 10 year figure comes out of someone's butt. That is the estimate with all the environmental lawsuits and congressional blockages.
Global warming is so real the polar icecap is increasing over last year and boy it sure is hot in Pittsburgh. LMAO That one is funny.
And does abstinence education work. Of course it does. But we teach kids how to have sex. And that is really working. Look at all the pregnant girls in the Pittsburgh Public School System. They took the sex education classes and how those teenagers really did their homework.
Liberalism is a failure. But since you left wing kooks want to act like it really works. Then take pride in the fact that Pittsburgh is in oversight because the Democrats can't handle the money. And the public school system is in debt and producing nothing but drop outs. 48% figure there. Take pride in that failure. Rasie the taxes somemore and watch 2,850 more people leave the City. Its liberalism run amok and Pittsburgh is the result.LOL LOL
John K: Yah this recession is so bad that PNC Park will be full tonight to watch the Zambelli Fireworks display. Wonder where people got all that disposal income? LMAO
ReplyDeleteUh-oh. Somebody's been taking their meds! Look out! An actual reply to actual points made in another comment. Of course, it's still a deranged and delusional reply, but nevertheless, there is strange scent of half-baked coherence to it. Good for 2pj's favorite troll. Remember, the meds are your friends.
ReplyDeleteTHE RECESSION AIN'T REAL!
ReplyDeleteThe definition of a Recession is two quarters of negative growth.
That has not happened yet.
They never let data or facts get in the way.
You mean like claiming that Vietnam veterans were never spit upon?
From the author of the Spitting Image: Myth, Memory, and the Legacy of Vietnam?
I've never said I knew that spitting did not happen. In the book, I speculate that, given the raucous nature of the war years and the many years that the war and opposition went on, I'd be surprised if some veteran, sometime, someplace, would not have been spat on.
Or Paul R. Ehrlich population bomb?
Mein Herr;
ReplyDeleteOf course you're ignoring the most important part of Gramm's comments: when he called this country "a nation of whiners."
Why did you ignore that? Was it because you couldn't spin it away?
Not sure where you're looking to go with the Lembke deflection. I've read the book and he doesn't say that it NEVER happened. He says that it definitely did NOT happen the way it's being described now. There's no contemporaneous record of the large number of spittings that were being "reported" when he wrote the book.
In any event, why did you ignore Gramm's claim that we're a nation of whiners?
Doesn't Phil Gramm love America? He certainly seems to detest Americans.
How about you? Do you love America more than Phil Gramm?
This whole thread regarding Phill Gramm is actually WHINING. You sit at your computers and proclaim armageddon and yet you do little more. Going to protests and rallies do little more.
ReplyDeleteHow about helping your fellow man with kindness, or maybe even consider dropping the stereotypes for Republicans and Democrats. Realize that we are all individuals that regardless of political leanings want what’s best for our country. (slowly steps down from soap box)
PS
Supporting the troups means supporting their mission.
"Supporting the troups (sic) means supporting their mission."
ReplyDeleteHogwash. Supporting the troops means supporting them in spite of or regardless of their mission. People are more than toys for the war pigs to play with and more than their missions, benign or malignant.
