Lynn Cullen Update

The P-G has some more information:
Cullen's show is going off the air because the 5,000-watt station is switching in September to a financial advice format, said Alan Serena, vice president and marketing manager for the station's owner, Renda Broadcasting.
And a few points worth making. The first about the station:
Serena said he wasn't ready yet to announce the specific lineup of the new format but said it will involve changing the station's call letters to WMMY-AM and will include a mixture of local and syndicated financial advice and call-in programs.
And the second about Lynn's show itself:

She said she had been told that she had the only program on WPTT that was bringing in significant ad revenue, much of it from such bedrock sponsors as Little's Shoes and Castle Windows. "The station is on for 24 hours, but my three hours were the only revenue-producing hours," she said.

Serena acknowledged her drawing power and said that when the station dropped talk-show host Doug Hoerth in December, it was partly because it hoped to cut costs enough to allow Cullen's program to survive.

That I didn't know. They booted Uncle Dougie (partly) for Lynn's show to survive?

I do want to echo what Maria wrote:
We thank her for the opportunities that she gave us.
Thanks, Lynn.

  1. John K: They are changing the call sign also. LMAO LMAO OH the humanity!  Only way she survives is to bring back the fairness doctrine. LOL

  2. John K: UH Ron Morris's show supports itself.  Morris orginally bought the time for his radio show.  He owned that time slot. Then he went out and sold advertising to support it.  He operated in the red for a few months and then it turned into the black.  Now he works for Renda broadcasting and his slot makes money.  But he is on only 3 hours a week.  Morris also has a following on the internet, talk shoe.  The man knows business.

  3. They told Hoerth he had to go out and hustle some advertising support in order to stay on the air. He didn't want to do that, so they dropped him when his contract was up.

  4. and will include a mixture of local and syndicated financial advice and call-in programs.
I hope that they have Jerry Bowyer come back and do some part-time hosting.
Just imagine the white hot progressive/independent rage here if that happens.

  5. John K: Now Bowyer filled in for Miller on KDKA last week.  Did  a good job.  It is hard to argue with Bowyer because he researches the subject and knows his facts. Which drives callers nuts.  Hmm, did not know that about Hoerth, but it does not suprise me.

  6. I liked Bowyer when he replaced Marty Minto at WORD-FM. I didn't always agree with him, but I respected his well-articulated thoughts and the courteous way he spoke to callers. I was bummed when his health caused him to leave that gig. He's too much of a supply-sider for me to enjoy his economic commentary. I liked him better as a Christian talk host.
