Democracy Has Prevailed.

panties in a bunch

Just a reminder that when trying to gauge via the blogosphere what progressive and liberal women think about, oh, this or that and who exactly are defining the issues, it helps to have some idea of the demographics of some of the marquee blogs.

This, for example, caught my eye:

(Click on graphic for larger version)

Granted it is a self-reporting poll and therefore not scientific, but the numbers are so overwhelming as to certainly have some significance:

76% of responders are male and a paltry 14% are female.

And speaking of DK, it also helps to be aware of the history there of pie fights and boycotts.

John K: I am astounded that anyone actually relies on the Daily Kos.

This from a person who gets his information from Rush Limbaugh.

I remember when I was talking to a friend of mine about a story in the New York Times, and she said something about how the story could be biased. I believe I looked at her like she was speaking in tongues.

We all have our wee biases, both in terms of our views towards sexism (and racism) and our sources of news and opinion. I think it is important that we first listen to each other, and second either respect each other's opinions or if we must criticize we try to do so narrowly and back up our criticism with some form of support. Blogs can be sort of like the scientific method, in that ideas can be advanced and supported or shot down by some conflicting evidence. However, it should be done with respect and circumspection.

The immediate question I think this poses is why? Why are so many more "progressive" blog readers (and let's just grant, blog authors) male? The digital divide can not account for this, and I suspect educational disparities don't either.

Bram, how much of elected government is male? Does that frame the direction of policy?

John K: Limbaugh is right 98.7% of the time. LOL LOL Next dumb question.

John K: But hey you can move to Bristol, Conn. Liberal censorship heaven. Right along the lines of Blagojevich and Dayvoe. Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and Quinn have been removed from the radio because they have, and get this, hate speech. LMAO LMAO Liberals can't deal with it, censor. LMAO LMAO And you rely on the daily kos? Get real.

Well, John K.'s last couple of comments speak for themselves.

I don't know where Bristol is particularly, but a very quick Google on radio stations near Bristol turned up a whole lot of Limbaugh, O’Reilly and others in Connecticut and other neighboring states. For what it is worth.

Bristol, Conn., is the home of ESPN. The only thing that I can think of that could be relate Bristol and "liberal censorship" in johnk's pointy little head would be:

Limbaugh had a spot on their NFL GameDay show. He was awful. After he made a moronic comment about black QB's in the NFL, he was canned. This was followed immediately by the news that Rush was an addict. With all due respect to johnk, I expect that the OxyContins and Vicodins falling out of his briefcase had more to do with his sacking, than "censorship."

I'm sure that Limbaugh would never admit that his firing was his fault, in any way, so, it could only be "liberal censorship."

Really? He's right 98.7% of the time?

Not 98.8%? Not 99%? Why not 98.6%?

I guess Limbaugh's up for it because when he's wrong, he's really wrong.

Two of my favorite Limbaugh classics:

1) There are more Native Americans alive today than when Europeans arrived here(from either his first book or "See, I told you so.")

2) There are more trees today than when we settled the country.

Neither holds up to the smell test and you'd have to be a pretty stupid person to even attempt to make such assertions.

Of course, he's wrong on foreign policy. He's not much of realist in that respect.

And he's really wrong(as all conservatives are) in his support for unfettered Market capitalism(I mean, why hasn't the Magic Market fixed everything, like we're always told it will?).

And he hasn't even been close when it comes to environmental issues.

I guess he's right on the little things, like hating minorities, woman and LGBT, which seems about right since 95% of Rush's program is anger and hate.

John K: Yep, Bristol, Conn. took those folks off the radio for no other reason than the excuse of hate speech. LOL LOL Blagojevich tried the same thing with the Chicago Tribune. Hussein Obama did the same thing with a reporter who posted stories that did not carry his party line. And Dayvoe would like to, and has advocated the same, with the Trib and Jack Kelly. Liberals can't deal with any form of dispute. So they hide from it ala Stalin. LMAO LMAO Do I know liberals or what? LOL

John K: I thought you folks were supposed to be ignoring me on the orders of Dayvoe? You can't. I speech too much truth and am therefore someone who has to be discredited. Keep trying, this is so much fun making fools of liberals.

John K: I see Hugh Jackman is hosting the "new look oscars". LMAO What you only make inane political statements at these events when Republicans are in office. LOL LOL New look oscars. LMAO You lefties are so much fun.

Hey John K, you discredit yourself (and Limbaugh) with your behavior.

Apparently, according to the Bristol Press, Bristol does not even have a radio station (I have no way of confirming that). Tell Limbaugh or Quinn or whomever to try again (Homer).
