Democracy Has Prevailed.

Help Out a Local!

Why blog about a race for State Representative in the 95th Legislative District (York County, PA)?

The Democratic candidate in that race is Eugene DePasquale (yes, of the Pittsburgh DePasquale's -- he's former City Council President Eugene "Jeep" DePasquale's grandson) and he could use your help.

First, he has a great progressive platform (he emailed me the long version). Eugene has an impressive history for a 35 year-old having served as York's Director of Economic Development and as the Deputy Secretary for Community Revitalization and Local Government Support in Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection, as well as having held various positions in the state General Assembly and state agencies. He understands the connection between cleaning up an area and persuading people to move there. Moreover, he helped spearhead PA's push to attract alternative energy producers and lessen our dependence on foreign oil.

Second, we need to keep this seat Democratic. The current representative, Stephen H. Stetler (D-York) only resigned last month to take on a new position as executive director of the state office of the Pennsylvania Economy League. That means that DePasquale hasn't been given that much time to run.

Third, he is a local having grown up here and earned a graduate degree in public policy and public administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

A fundraiser is being held here in Pittsburgh for Eugene:
When:
Sunday, October 8, 2006, 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Where: Panther Hollow Inn (His Dad's place)
4601 Forbes Ave
Pittsburgh PA 15213
(Map: http://maps.citysearch.com/location/8608826)

Tickets for this event are $100, BUT lesser contributions are welcome! So, if you have a couple of hours to spare on Sunday and ($50, $20, or even $15 bucks) drop on by for some eats and drinks and good conversation.

Considering his local political connections, the guest list should be interesting...

SEE YOU THERE!
