RIP Molly Ivins

Molly Ivins
1944 - 2007

If you're reading this blog you probably already know that Molly Ivins was one of the most popular progressive columnists in the country, a best-selling author, the person who stuck W with the nickname "Shrub," and one hell of a woman.

She passed away after an eight-year battle with cancer.

John Nichols writes this about her in The Nation:
The warmest-hearted populist ever to pick up a pen with the purpose of calling the rabble to the battlements, Ivins understood that change came only when some citizen in some off-the-map town passed a petition, called a Congressman or cast an angry vote to throw the bums out.
You can read his full tribute here.

You can read (or reread) her most recent columns here.

This is a true loss for us all. I was lucky enough to see Ms. Ivins live in Pittsburgh (with an intro. by Lynn Cullen no less) and witnessed her sharp intellect, humor and compassion first hand.

Definitely agree Sherry P.

I have been in a cloud of loss all day. America lost a great fighter for our Democracy with her death.

Uch. You don't appreciate what you have until its gone. I never considered myself much of a fan, but they replayed a Fresh Air interview with her this afternoon. What a treasure.
