Coulter Explains Further

On Hannity and Colmes last night, Ann Coulter explained her "joke" with this:
Faggot isn't offensive to gays; it has nothing to do with gays.
And:
It's a schoolyard taunt meaning 'wuss,' and unless you're telling me that John Edwards is gay, it was not applied to a gay person."

Really? "Faggot" having nothing to do with gays? I am assuming at least a few members of Pittsburgh's gay community read this blog. Can I get a ruling from the judges? Is it true that "faggot" is not an anti-gay slur?

Anyway since language expert Ann is claiming that "faggot=wuss", what does "wuss" mean? According to the American Heritage Dictionary, "wuss" is probably a combination of "wimp" and "pussy" and it means:

A person regarded as weak or timid and especially as unmanly

The term itself is a sexist insult. A man is a wuss if he's acting like a weak woman. Not sure if Ann's gained any ground on that one. Especially if she's saying that that's also the definition of "faggot."

Ann also tried to dance around the issue by saying that it was a joke about rehab - and how in Hollywood people go to rehab for alot of stupid reasons. But let's analyse the joke:

I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I — so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards.
If you look closely, she's saying that she can't talk about Edwards, because in her comments she wants to use a particular term - but if she used that word, she'd have to go into rehab.

See? The joke is about the word faggot.

Crooks and Liars has the clip.

I feel so stupid now. Who knew? All this time, whenever I have used the term (only in my misguided youth, I assure you!), I thought that it had something to do with homosexuality. Thank goodness that Ann has set me straight (no pun intended). But given her definition, I'm not sure what my English friends are going to say anymore when they want to talk about cigarettes. And I'm at a loss about what one should call a small bundle of sticks.

Ann could help me out if she would publish a dictionary to set forth what all these words really mean. For example, what if "green" really doesn't apply to a color, commonly exhibited by trees and other plant life. What if it insetead means, "I'm a liberal traitor; please stone me to death!". Well, I certainly would want to know about this misunderstanding on my part before my next visit to the Phipps conservatory!

WTF?

I don't know whether to delete this post or leave it up as a monument to stupidity...

Advice, please!

FYI:

Via our stat counter, I can see that the idiot who posted this was not a regular reader.

They came by way of a link from Real Clear Politics.

It takes someone with an incredible IQ to come up with such a novel and intelligent comment. Let's hope anon is not the sole representation of other readers at "Real Clear Politics."

how much time did anon waste from his life posting this?

I guess that depends on what his WPM rate is?

One would hope that as moronic as they are, they at least knew how to copy & paste the word...Then again, they probably enjoyed typing it over and over again.

On that posting...

As one of the 2 Political Junkies and as the original poster, I was faced with a problem regarding "anonymous" above.

The comment was obviously over the line and obnoxious. Do I delete it? But it was just the "f-word" and I used that word in my own posting. If I delete the comment, wouldn't that be a double standard?

But if I keep it up there, then I'm giving a platform (albeit a small temporary one) to someone to spew the same hate that I'm writing against.

I asked around and most of the responses were "it's your blog posting, your rules. So if you wanna delete it, delete it."

I decided not to delete it because I wanted to show just how idiotic anonymous is.

Might be the right decision, might be the wrong decision. But it's the decision I made.

And since it's my blogpost, it's my rules. Hahahahahaha!
