Peer review is the way of academics. We need to be critical of each others issues and solutions.
Fact checking is good for the past. But, politics is about the future. There is no way to know that the Pirates will not have 5 years of sold out games before the building of PNC Park -- until after it is built and paid for. Then we find out that in the first year, by the fifth game there were tickets to be had. We were had.
So, it is nice to have a history that can be fact checked.
Hence, the snakes among the political landscape don't want to 'go on the record.' They'll be stepping into 'traps' for the future.
Speaking of Council meetings, anyone else catch today's? Anyone else find it a little weird how the rules were bent to allow people to make pro "Pittsburgh Promise" comments untimed and out of order from the public commenters' mics?

- - Recent caller: He talked about the PR machine. Seemed to hint at the nonprofit weenie groups. Talked about how people just leave. I say, they vote with their feet.
Wondered why there were not more folks telling the 'truth.' He was depressed to not see more brutal honesty (my words) from what is really going on in the neighborhoods (his words).
Yeah. Nods. Going againt the likes of they hypsters of the 40-under-40s, the PUMPers and such is hard. Plus, its so 'depressing' -- generally.
She said, "I don't think that there is a lot of 'give-and-take.'" (humm)
Luke could do WAY more in the give and take realm. He could call me back. He could debate. He could meet the press without a pre-recorded constraint.
The mayor is ducking.
Sadly, the dialog is about the mayor and now WITH the mayor. I don't want to blog about politicans. I want to blog about issues among citizens with politicians.
During the time normally reserved for the "read & adopted" portion of the meeting, Mark Roosevelt (Superintendent of the Pittsburgh Public Schools), William Isler (Board President), Theresa Collaizzi, Dan Romaniello, Sr., the President of the Federation of Teachers, and at least one other board member were allowed to stand at the public's podium and speak on behalf of "Pittsburgh Promise."
There was no time clock running, though they did keep their comments short.
Before they spoke, Shields said that they were going to "bend the rules." He followed up their comments with some of his own.
Later on they had the actual timed public comments section.
Matt didn't say what his blog was - I thought he was going to, but he didn't.
I had a feeling that "Tiffany" (she was the one calling for more "Pro-Luke" blogs) was somehow connected to Ravenstahl. Her spiel was too polished for her to be a regular person. Maybe she works in City Hall. Maybe she volunteers for the Luke's campaign. Maybe I'm completely wrong about it all. So Tiff, if you're out there - start a blog!
I like feeling like someone somewhere thinks I might be dangerous.

There are lies. Then there are whoppers -- big harry lies.
The Pittsburgh Promise is a big one.
When they lie, it hurts everyone. The kids, the process, the other politicians, the residents. I'm skeptical. But, golly. They need to be honest from time to time.
Sorry I missed it. But, I might have given someone a body blow at 3 minutes and 15 seconds. Or, have had them do that to me. So, perhaps it is good to have been 'absent.'
BTW, nice show David.

Weather is worse in Toronto but it is a city that is ranked higher than Pgh.
If there is an ethics problem, guys, it should go to the ethics hearing board -- that does NOT meet. Or, it could be filed to the state ethics board.
