Ron Paul and HR 4379

Congressman Paul introduced, in 2005, something he called the "We the People Act."

The bill sought to limit the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court on issues of religion, privacy, and gay marriage. The Supreme Court:

(1) shall not adjudicate--

(A) any claim involving the laws, regulations, or policies of any State or unit of local government relating to the free exercise or establishment of religion;

(B) any claim based upon the right of privacy, including any such claim related to any issue of sexual practices, orientation, or reproduction; or

(C) any claim based upon equal protection of the laws to the extent such claim is based upon the right to marry without regard to sex or sexual orientation; and

My guess is that this means that if a state, any state, say the Congressman's own state of Texas, were to add Exodus 22:18 into its criteria for capital punishment or Genesis 3:16 into its family law statutes, the Supreme Court could not weigh in on the matter.

And this is the guy who's gonna save the country?

I think nobody but you thought he would save the country.

Because he's the only Republican Presidential candidate opposed to the war, a lot of people get the impression that Ron Paul is a moderate. Nothing could be further from the truth. Paul has an extremely unsavory record of espousing racist and right-wing conspiracy views. See the following excellent articles by Dave Neiwert and his fellow bloggers over at Orcinus.

Excellent links, F&B Dave!

I had no idea what a RACIST old coot Ron Paul is.

In case any of you were too lazy to click on the links:

http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/2007/06/ron-paul-vs-new-world-order.html:

... Paul, writing in his independent political newsletter in 1992, reported about unspecified surveys of blacks.

"Opinion polls consistently show that only about 5 percent of blacks have sensible political opinions, i.e. support the free market, individual liberty and the end of welfare and affirmative action,"Paul wrote.

Paul continued that politically sensible blacks are outnumbered "as decent people." Citing reports that 85 percent of all black men in the District of Columbia are arrested, Paul wrote:

"Given the inefficiencies of what D.C. laughingly calls the `criminal justice system,' I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal," Paul said.

Paul also wrote that although "we are constantly told that it is evil to be afraid of black men, it is hardly irrational. Black men commit murders, rapes, robberies, muggings and burglaries all out of proportion to their numbers."

http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/2007/06/man-of-hour.html:

* A 1992 screed on African-American"racial terrorism" in Los Angeles, in which Paul insists that "our country is being destroyed by a group of actual and potential terrorists -- and they can be identified by the color of their skin."

* Another 1992 article, this one asserting that "complex embezzling" is "100% white and Asian;" and noting that young black male muggers are "unbelievably fleet-footed."

i know the "old coot"supposedly won the informal internet poll for the recent GOP debate, but surely his libertarian supporters stuffed the ballot box..the guy shouldn't even be at the table....but then neither should most of them

It's really pretty crazy that Ron Paul, who appears to be a crazy old coot, is the best candidate among either major party's candidates.

And yet he is the only one who understands and enunciates the greatest threat to the future of the United States, which is not Al Qaeda, but our own politicians and their inability to control spending.

Beginning next year, as the baby boomers begin to retire en masse, we are going to see the beginnings of generational warfare that will rip us apart.

The vitriol against Ron Paul on this site is very interesting and appears to be unfounded. It's funny that I keep hearing everyone say that Ron Paul is "racist". I followed all the links provided here hoping to see some quote from Ron Paul that would prove that he is "racist". Instead, all I could find was an endless chain of links referencing other Ron Paul detractors who also claimed he was a "racist". If you're going to provide a link, go to the source, not to some yahoo who happens to agree with you! How is a person supposed to research a candidate on what appears to be pure gossip?

Can't find anything to confirm his 'racist' comments.

Ron Paul Racist? No way. The people who think that are just plain out STUPID. Might as well call me Racist, even though I have many friends of many different ethnical backgrounds. Lame asses.
Ron Paul is still the better choice for President compared to all the other dildos running for Pres. Hillary? What a joke. She will ruin our country worse than Bush. Fuck-a-bee needs to get his teeth fixed and learn how to lead before trying to be a president. Shit. Obama? Yeah let's get a former muslim to be president of the united states, just so he can convert back to being muslim and let the middle east roam free here on our soil. Great choice for the Americans pffft, he is to wet behind the ears to be president anyway. Romney? HA. What a con he is, dishonest prick. And worst of all, Rudy G... ppsssht that guy feeds off 9/11 when that's all he's got, and even then he sucked at his job. Rudy needs to stop with his BS, yet another person to ruin our country. At least Ron Paul wants to do far more to help our country than these other assholes. GET A CLUE PEOPLE, LEARN ABOUT RON PAUL BEFORE YOU BASH THE GUY. I HAVE LEARNED A LOT ABOUT THE RUNNERS AND KNOW ENOUGH ALREADY TO SUPPORT RON PAUL.
