Writers Strike: It's not just for Hollywood anymore!

Seems that the CBS News writers have decided to join in on the action:
CBS News writers authorized their union leaders to call a national strike, the Writers Guild of America said Monday, escalating a labor impasse.

About 500 CBS News television and radio writers — who work in New York, Los Angeles, Washington and Chicago — have been working under an expired contract since April 2005.

[snip]

In a prepared statement, the company said it "remains fully prepared, and ready to continue producing the highest quality news programming." [Uh-huh . . .]

[snip]

"Writers Guild members are sending their CBS bosses an irrefutable message of solidarity: we will do whatever it takes to get what we have earned and deserve," Michael Winship, president of Writers Guild of America East, said in a prepared statement.

Hollywood drama and comedy writers, who are also represented by the WGA, are entering the third week of an unrelated industry strike that has shaken network and cable television, threatening popular shows such as Fox's "24" and sending late-night talk shows, such as Comedy Central's "Daily Show with Jon Stewart," into unplanned reruns.
In the interest of fairness, we're giving the producers a chance to give their side of the story:

Fox, of course, has no such problems. But we knew this already. ;)

Does this mean that Katie Couric's newscast will be off the air? If so, management is probably thanking the writers. Some people say that I, for one, will celebrate the end of that newscast. Some people say that I told them that newscast sucks. Some people say that an infomercial for the Republican Party--or even Bill O--is better that that newscast. Some people say there's a party going on in CBS' corporate headquarters if there's no more Katie:).

John K. says: This writer's strike is hilarious. It appears that two of the mouthpieces for the left (Colbert and Stewert) aren't as smart as the left makes them out to be. They can't write their own material and can only recite it. Now Limbaugh and Hannity and O'Reilly et al., they do not suffer from that problem. They can not only read their own material but write it as well. LMAO again.

John K. says: Speaking of writing your own material. I see The President has pardoned two turkeys today. I guess he decided to let Senators Kennedy and Kerry off the hook again. To which Ted Kennedy promptly approved by ordering a double scotch. LMAO LMAO can I deliver a line or what?

John K - wonderful bs strawman talking points from talk radio regarding Cobert and Stewart, but you forgot to actually think for yourself and realize that both Colbert and Stewart are MEMBERS OF THE WRITERS GUILD.

I guess Rush and Sean's fact checkers are on strike again.

I watched Couric's newscast the other night. I don't care a hoot about her politics, but as a communicator on that broadcast, she is a total failure. It's as if someone took all her personality and drained it out of her. She is a freakin' zombie, playing at being a "serious newsperson." She would be best served by just doing what she did on the fluffy morning news, 'cause the truth is, that's what the CBS Evening News is, too. At least then, even if the material was thin and pointless, at least Katie would be enjoyable to watch!

John K. says: Oh this is even dumber than it looks. Stewert and Colbert are members of the writer's guild. LOL LOL and they can't even write their own material. Limbaugh can fill three hours a day (count 'em 3 hours), and not employ one writer. LOL LOL LOL and the left acts LMAO like they have brains. Give me a break.

I know that this may be hard for you to understand (like everything else), but Colbert and Stewart appear on comedy television shows (they are not actual news shows!) Comedy shows have sketches and bits (video and audio) that are indeed written by comedy writers. They are not people speaking off the top of their heads. While many of us find Rush comical, he is in a completely different medium.

You may now go back to your own reality.

John K. says: So Colbert and Stewert appear on comedy central. LMAO So then why is the left getting most of its political information from that channel? Has Olbermouth moved there yet? He is funny to watch. Always blowing his stack over false information fed him by moveon.org or media matters. LOL
