More On John Hagee

The Burgh Report posted this last night:
Sen. John McCain called a press conference today where McCain accepted the endorsement of a virulent anti-Catholic preacher from Texas.
Over at Salon.com, we learn that commited rationalist and all around even tempered guy Bill Donahue of the Catholic League is non-to-pleased:
According to Donohue, Hagee has "made a lot of money off bashing the Catholic Church and blames Catholics for the Holocaust." What does it say about McCain that he would embrace such a figure? "This doesn't speak well for him. He's tolerating an endorsement by an inveterate bigot, and it's been brought to his attention."
The League issued a statement titled: McCain Embraces Bigot. In it Donohue said:
“There are plenty of staunch evangelical leaders who are pro-Israel, but are not anti-Catholic. John Hagee is not one of them. Indeed, for the past few decades, he has waged an unrelenting war against the Catholic Church. For example, he likes calling it ‘The Great Whore,’ an ‘apostate church,’ the ‘anti-Christ,’ and a ‘false cult system.’ To hear the bigot in his own words, click here. Note: he isn’t talking about the Buddhists.
That link to the youtube clip? Here it is:

Glenn Grenwald makes a good point:
It's difficult to recall a more transparent media double standard than their intense, melodramatic amplification this week of the Obama/Farrakhan matter (even though those two have no connection whatsoever), contrasted with their virtual silence about McCain's affirmative, repeated embrace of a true extremist like John Hagee.
Liberal media? What liberal media?

But..but..John McCain is a straight-shooting, maverick according to his fluffers in the MSM. Oh, and IOKIYAR.

Not to be cynical, but Donahue's attack on Hagee could actually have real world repercussions for McCain. I mean, normally most people laugh at him as a zealot and a hysteric, BUT, if his attack gets picked up in the public, then a lot of Catholic voters might start taking a look at Hagee's pronouncement on the Holy See. And that could push a few voters in a key demograhpic in a few key states (e.g. Missouri, New Mexico) towards voting Democratic this fall.

In other words, thank you John Hagee.

By "public" I meant to say "mainstream press."

John K. says: That's okay. Hussein Obama has accepted the endorsement of Osama Bin Laden (D-Pakistan). Along with that comes some 15 super delegates from the Al Queda wing of the Democrat party in the mid east.

that's not even clever.

I also hear that he likes human livers with a nice bottle of Chianti... wait, or is that from that movie... Oh, well, there I go, confusing fiction with reality.

Tell me, John, Heir, and our other wingnut friends, how do you handle that problem, given it's something you deal with everyday?

There's a shock...John K.'s a racist, fearmongering twit.

John K. says; Now the fascinating part of this is that you left wing loons think everyone on the right goes to the church that John Hagee represents. That is the bigoted part. By the way, is Hussein Obama going to have Al Zawahiri make the case for surrender at the DNC convention?

I know I've ranted on this before, but: Isn't it amazing the way all these Wingnuts go on?

A sensible person can more or less understand this inanity coming from John K. (who I think is actually one of us making fun of them.) But these are apparently the same "thoughts" that fill the minds of people that we might think of as having two dendrites to rub together. I'm talking about people such as Mitch McConnel, Sean Hannity, XRanger, Robert Gates, John Roberts, C.H. (who seems finally to come to his senses and quit us), and the like.

How did any of these people ever make it to third grade when their minds are stuffed with so much illogic and anger? How did they ever learn to tie their shoes when they can't even distinguish between Limbaugh's spew and reality?

Could it be that many or most of them actually know how laughably specious and jejune their arguments are, but have decided to embrace them anyway because they gain something -- or have been mislead into believing they gain something -- from them.

I will concede this: These folks must possess some understanding that I do not, because their mental process completely eludes me.

Let's see. John K generalizes about all the "left wing loons" and then based on that generalization, asserts that the left is bigoted.

THat's all you need to know about John K. His projection of his own bigotry determines everything he thinks

Tina Fey says the press is biased on Saturday Night Live, so it must be true. I think Fey just likes her tax cut, and wants to keep it--therefore she's spreading the liberal media lie to help her champion, John McCain.

And Obama has promised to bomb Pakistan to take out bin Laden. We know that bin Laden doesn't want that. bin Laden would like to keep the United States mired in a quagmire for 100 years...

Where was Donahue when Bush and McCain went to Bob Jones University?

Bob Jones jr and III have made comments that Catholicism was "not another Christian denomination. It is a satanic counterfeit, an ecclesiastic tyranny over the souls of men....It is the old harlot of the book of the Revelation—'the Mother of Harlots.'"

In 2000, then-president Bob Jones III referred, on the University's web page, to Mormons and Catholics as "cults which call themselves Christian."

Why does he expect a change now?

When the right is forced to placate to fundamentalists of all denominations and they forget that the tenets of fundamentalism tend to lean towards my god is better than your god, it's pretty entertaining.

Pass the popcorn.

John K. says: Breaking news, Democrats love those tax cuts. Not one of them ever says, nah forget it the Govt needs more money. Look locally at how many of these Onorato Democrats are whining about a drink tax. If any of you Democrats want to forgo your refund check just let me know. I wil give you the address to the place in WV where you can send it to reduce the national debt. Well John Hagee is on TV so I have to get out my check book and get all the conservatives together so we can participate. After all, in the minds of left wing kooks, we all worship at his church.
