1992: McCain called wife a "cunt" in full view of aides and reporters

From Raw Story:
The Real McCain by Cliff Schecter, which will arrive in bookstores next month, reports an angry exchange between McCain and his wife that happened in full view of aides and reporters during a 1992 campaign stop. An advance copy of the book was obtained by RAW STORY.

Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.
[snip]

The exchange between McCain and his wife was not reported anywhere when it happened, Schecter said (a LexisNexis database search confirms this). In 1992, McCain's mention in the national media revolved mostly around his involvement in the Keating Five scandal, and only local reporters closely followed his re-election bid.

McCain is well known for his rapport with the national media covering his presidential bid (he's jokingly referred to the press as "my base"), but Schecter said this incident was buried not out of fealty to the Arizona senator. Rather, it was uneasiness about how to get such a coarse exchange into a family newspaper, and he didn't fault the local press for not covering the incident."
First, imagine what the MSM would do if this story was about Obama rather than St. McCain....

Second, I'd say that the MSM still has a problem reporting on a story when the C-word is used. The fact that there's a 527 anti Hillary group called Citizens United Not Timid has been given very little play. I guess it pays to be completely over the top outrageous.

Let us make certain everyone is aware that the 527 you refer to in your post is a Republican-based 527and has nothing to do with any Democrat, living or dead. It is appalling and precisely the sort of thing that all Democrats should join together to decry.

I didn't know this about Senator McCain and am surprised to learn it.

has anyone ever been married for more than a few years? Tension mounts and words fly. I'm sure ther passion overcame their anger. It always does. Drop it!

Am I the only one who senses that the author of the immediately preceding comment would have deemed his opinion equally applicable had the Senator beaten his wife with a belt?

Yeah, didn't think so.

Kim is correct that the group cited is 100% Rethuglican.

McCain has a long history of ugly outbursts and even physical confrontations with other lawmakers.

John K. says: As opposed to Hillary Clinton throwing govt property around the white house at various people and her husband. And, of course, we have the fact that when Hillary Clinton walked thru the white house corridors staff had to disappear and not make eye contact with her.
