McCain 'kind of like Jesus'

From The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Columbus — Georgia Republican Party chairwoman Sue Everhart said Saturday that the party's presumed presidential nominee has a lot in common with Jesus Christ.

"John McCain is kind of like Jesus Christ on the cross," Everhart said as she began the second day of the state GOP convention. "He never denounced God, either."
She later said, "I'm not trying to compare John McCain to Jesus Christ" and still later added, "I don't know what 'like' or 'compare' mean."

Although both have a reputation for a fiery temper, there are some serious differences between John McSame and JC. Here are the top 10.

10. Jesus thought we might be able to get out of Iraq in only 80 years.

9. Whereas Christ kissed the guy who betrayed him, McCain prefers hugging.

8. Most Conservatives claim they DO like Jesus.

7. The Nazarene's father never made Admiral.

6. Jesus knows that Iran has a Shi'ite government and that al Qaeda is Sunni.

5. The senator from Arizona, unlike Our Lord and Savior, is unable to identify the Supreme Leader of Iran.

4. Christ did not lie about Barak Obama offering to negotiate with Ahmadinejad.

3. Both were tortured, but only McLame embraced both torture and George W. Bush.

2. Jesus seldom addresses women to whom he is close as "you cunt."

And the Number One difference between the Prince of Peace and John McBush:

1. Jesus was a liberal.

So, would this make Lieberman Paul on the road to Damscus? Or is he Peter, the rock upon which McCain will build his presidency?

Who is McCain's Judas?

overturning the money changers in the temle. That was pretty directly confrontational. Can Obama muster the courage, or will he think more about his million dollar home and million dollar babies?
If Mckane is McSame, then is Bush totally wrong about this?

Days later, in his address to the Knesset, Bush said that "the president of Iran dreams of returning the Middle East to the Middle Ages" and "America stands with you in firmly opposing Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions."

"Permitting the world's leading sponsor of terror to possess the world's deadliest weapon would be an unforgivable betrayal of future generations. For the sake of peace, the world must not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon," he said.
I'm just asking?

John K. says: This is an odd reaction. This is exactly how MSNBC is portraying the Obama campaign.

In this corner, speaking for greater wingnuttia, our resident troll:

For the left to claim Jesus was a liberal is just hilarious.

In this corner, Jesus of Nazareth:

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. [Matthew 5:9]

I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. [Matthew 5:44]

Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions. [Luke 12.15.]

You cannot serve both God and Money. [Matthew 6:24.]

If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven.
[Matthew 19:21]

But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just. [Luke 14:13 &14.]

But then, of course, there's always Supply Side Jesus

Was Jesus a liberal? Was he a conservative?

Any person worth their spirtiual salt(and a little knowledge of Joseph Campbell) would argue that any truly spiritual person is beyond simple labels of liberal or conservative; the divine itself stands beyond, as Campbell wrote, is beyond "pairs of opposites."

Of course, there is the sermon on the Mount, which is a pretty leftist diatribe. And the whole peacenik thing, though I know contemporary American religious conservatives have attempted to refashion him as a Warrior Christ.

And let's clear something up about the president of Iran - his role is not like that of our own president and he has considerably less power in his government.

In fact, the president of Iran IS NOT responsible for either that country's foreign policy or nuclear program - that's Kamanei(sp?).

The only thing Ahmendinejad has in common with Bush is that both are petty demogogues who exploit fear and hate for their own gain.

And for people concerned about Iran's nuclear program, one of the ways to get a better idea of what they are doing is to talk to them. Why? It's called diplomatic espionage - it's much easier to get your people in a country when you have some form of formal relationship. And I'd rather have on the ground intelligence than the blind guesswork of the Bush administration(see Iraq).

If Israel can sit down and talk with Syria, continuing its long tradition of talking to its enemies(Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia), I'm not sure I understand what some leaders in the US are afraid of. Like James Baker III recently said, talking with your enemies is not appeasement - that's giving away something to your enemies; but talking, as the former SoS said, is vital.
