Cpt Jeffry S. Porter Story - False

Something bubbled up in a comment today that was so egregious that I had to address it.

It's the letter that hit the New York Daily News yesterday from a Cpt. Jeffrey S. Porter describing Senator Barack Obama's recent visit to Bagram Airbase. They said that the story "went viral" on Thursday. Curiously, in their initial reporting, they describe Army brass as "debunking" the story.

But obviously it lived on.

The letter was posted to this blog at 11:03 this morning. By 11:51, another commenter posted that it was false.

Here's the general debunking at snopes.com. Indeed Cpt Porter has written to the Daily News to pull the story down:

Now the Bagram captain is dialing back, having signed the viral e-mail with his name, rank and unit - a possible violation of military regulations barring political statements. This morning, he sent The Mouth a new statement (punctuation corrected):

“I am writing this to ask that you delete my email and not forward it. After checking my sources, information that was put out in my email was wrong. This email was meant only for my family. Please respect my wishes and delete the email and if there are any blogs you have my email portrayed on I would ask if you would take it down too. Thanks for your understanding.”

It's also at the Army Times.

I guess that settles things. No guarantee that it won't bubble up again of course. As we all know the authoritarians (John Dean's term) on the right aren't interested in facts - just winning.

John K: You sure he didn't just misspeak. That is the language usually used when Democrats do this. Hillary getting sniped at and all. And of course Hssein Obama paying those people to faint at his speeches. Now Hussein Obama did pass on visiting the wounded troops in Germany. Probably because they didn't have any free beer. LMAO

KGC says:

From the Army Times article..

Title - "Officer: Part of anti-Obama e-mail was wrong"

"Part?" Then, that means some of the e-mail was correct.

Also, froms ame Army Times article -“some of the information that was put out in my e-mail was wrong.”

"Some?" Then, that means a portion was correct.

From a few of the blog entries referenced - NO singatures or names.

Hmmmm... cowards or people who had no direct knowledge of the situation.

Look, it's been established that Obama, a/k/a/ The Messiah, blew off the wounded soldiers in Germanu because he wasn't permitted to take cameras and turn it into a campaign photo-op, so what's NOT to really believe about "part" or "some" of the e-mail. Me thinks Cpt Porter, who is a National Guard participant and NOT an enlisted soldier, got called in and told to do "some" damage control.

I have no problem believing Obama, a/k/a The Messiah did some sort of cursory, very brief appearance with certain troops just to get some campaign footage... wouln't want to get too close to those "type of people", you know.

BTW, I LOVE the new McCain ad lambasting Obama's, a/k/a, The Messiah, blowing off the wounded troops in Germany. Maybe, just maybe, McCain will grow a pair in this election season.

Wait until a gaffe and then hit hard.. below the belt. This ain't tiddlywinks.

The McCain ad

Concise. Factual. Ouch.

KGC,

Where was John McCain on the veterans benefits bills? Where was he on Jim Webb's GI Bill?

Yeah, John is a real supporter of the troops.

His latest add is nothing more than a pile of ....

Guess truth in campaigning is dead. Guess the so called honorable campaign that John was going to run died as well.

John McCain permanently divorced himself from any set larger than BBs when, for political gain, he mortgaged his manhood to hug the guy who had disparaged his military service and involved his daughter in racial ugliness in South Carolina eight years ago.

After McCain surrendered his marbles (to a man who isn't one-tenth the man McCain is . . . er, was), the Republican candidate isn't as susceptible to blows below the belt. But no matter. conservatives have gummed up this country to the point at which there is no need for the rest of us to take cheap shots to beat Republicans at the polls. Senate. House. White House. A better country. Deal with it.

Speaking of hugging Bush, I encourage everyone to send $20 to the Obama campaign, because it is almost time for a full-blown television assault, and I don't think we can ever have too many images of McCain hugging Bush on the airwaves.

Concise. Factual. Double ouch.

John K: The interesting part is that a soldier would risk his career to lie about Hussein Obama. Especially since you left wingers have said the military likes Obama. But here is a soldier that risked it all. Perhaps the military doesn't like Hussein Obama and is practicing a DNC trick is lie about anything to destroy your opponent. But I have been telling you that.

Anonymous said...

John K: I also noticed that you left wingers never said a word when Military Generals, who had failed in Iraq and had been relieved of duty (in civilian terms that means fired) went on the cable talk shows to lie about Bush. When some of these Generals, to save their weak reputations, flat out lied about Bush and Iraq you praised them. I guess it is only a lie when someone says it about your side.

Anonymous said...

John K: I also am reminding you of Jesse MacBeth. Yah him. The fake ranger who never served a day in Iraq telling everyone about torture he had witnesses and how bad things were and you lefties believed every word he said. He received a BCD from the Army and yet he was published in the NY Times as well as Olbermouth without any left winger fact checking him. You believe a fake soldier when they spew lies so why aren't you believing Cpl. Porter. Hypocracy rules in the left wing fantasy world.

John K,

All that the corporal's letter demonstrates is that the army is similarly made up to our population and that no party has a lock on it either way. The fact that the majority of the information provided by the corporal has been proven false, the remaining can not be verified, and that the corporal was writing from alleged second hand knowledge really gives a good picture on what you are dealing with.

As for the so-called failed commanders, please read up on what occurred. Tommy Franks quit with his entire command team due to the undue influence of the civilian brass in the Pentagon. Admiral Fallon was fired for speaking his mind.

As normal, John your memory on things is selective at best and your analysis of situations is blinded by your hate of your fictional viewpoint of the left.

Anonymous said...

John K: My memory of Jesse MacBeth is not false. You left wingers held him up as a hero. Even when exposed you refused to distance yourself from him and instead blamed Limbaugh. That I know. So the fact that this "Cpl Porter" made false allegations should be nothing other than modus operandi to the left wing kooks. After all Sen. Clinton merely mispoke. And you didn't even call her a coward. LMAO LMAO

Anonymous said...

John K: Adm Falon should have been fired in civilian terms. Relieved of duty in time of war is the actual term. The President is the Cmdr in Chief (or it is at least when you want to parade Hussein Obama in that role) and if you feel it in your heart as a flag rank officer to disagree with your commander officer, time to get out. Besides, Adm Fallon as well as the left was wrong. Again of course. Except if you believe Hussein Obama who says if things had turned out differently then he would have been right. LMAO LMAO

John K: By the way, for the record, Gen franks retired after he accomplished his mission. He was assigned to take out the Iraqi Army and he did. He then did a wise move and left the 2nd phase to other people. Battlefield commanders do not make good peace time administrators. History bears this out and Franks knew that. Some of those relieved of duty after April 2003, by the way left wingers, were members of his staff and command group. They then went on every left wing talk show to perserve their reputation simply by playing to the Olbermouth crowd and bashing Bush. Shame on them. Marshall would never have tolerated that type of conduct from folks sent home by Eisenhower.

Anonymous said...

John K,

For the record, Franks and his team resigned in protest to the mismanagement caused by Rumsfield and his teams constant intervention into the military decisions and the red tape that was put up.

You should listen to Franks interviews and comments on the topic that he released numerous times.

I realize that you probably barred such interviews from your memory or refuse to review them since it is not favorable to the Republicans.

Anonymous said...

Who the hell is Jessie McBeth???? We are talking about a current corporal who made false statements and had to revoke them because of such.

Stay on topic.

Also, please stop calling me and others left wingers sine we don't agree with you. I am a moderate and have been for years. I do not care for the extreme right or the extreme left.

You buddy are a right winger and should realize that you are on the margins of American politics and general opinion.

Anonymous said...

How was Admiral fallon wrong? He stated that the current military infrastructure could not support a third war with Iran. To date, no one has said he was wrong for expressing such opinion.

Anonymous said...

John K: Who is Jesse MacBeth, the previous post asks? Left wing kooks, I rest my case.

Anonymous said...

John K: "...stop calling me and others left wingers..." "You, buddy, are a right winger..." Before I rest my case on this one I would point out I am proud to be a right winger. We stand for something. But since left winger seems to bother you, how about stalinist? You lefties are making my arguments for me. LMAO LMAO

Anonymous said...

John K: Actually they have said Adm. Fallon was wrong. And like I said, if you cannot support your commander in chief, time to get out. And he did, after he was forced. There are liberals in the military also. Eisnehower sent his home and Marshall resassigned them to places where they could not damage the war effort. Now the left sings their praises.

Every time John K rants, every reader should be spurred to action.

Those who support Sen. Obama should volunteer for his campaign. Or donate a few dollars. Everyone can pitch in, one way or another, and every bit helps. Working for the betterment of your country is worthwhile.

Those who support John K can help us to understand which part of being a right-winger who stands for something is best. So let us know which you are proudest of -- torture, repeated Constitutional violations, politicization of the Justice Department, squandering innumberable lives and dollars in the botched attempt to occupy Iraq and defeat the Taliban in Afghanistan, substituting superstition for science in government policy, allowing bin Laden to evade justice, creating a record-setting federal deficit or (my favorite, I confess) invading the wrong country.

This is no time for anyone to stay at the sidelines. Work for Sen. Obama or join the deadenders defending the Bush Jr. Administration.

"how about stalinist?"

How about we get past idiotic name calling. It is juvenile and demonstrates both a lack of intellect and substance within your discussions and postings.

John K is proud of expanded government bureaucracy and spending without limits. You know two things that Reagon was against and Bush II and his camp support.

Anonymous said...

John K: Don't you liberals know that a police state is how we protect our freedoms. The fact congress is against such measures shows how absurd they are.

As for the corporal's email, even if it is not true, obama is still wrong. McCain is an American Hero and he should be respected for such.

Anonymous said...

John K: I am proud of the Republicans for how they treat you left wingers. cry babies about katrina when it was not Bush's fault. Those people are fools for living in flood zones and should not be rewarded for such.

As for spending, Bush can keep borrowing as much as possible in order to push the republican way of life.

We are going to win the election as well because we are better than the left and we know how to skew elections our way. Should I point out 2000 to you fools again. LMAO

Anonymous said...

John K: Uhhh let the liberals talk and they make fools of themselves every time. Every post after the time slot of 2:32 is not mine. But it is typical of lefties to have to lie to make their point. Need I say more about stalinist tactics.

Anonymous said...

John K: Face it left wing kooks. You embraced Jesse MacBeth. He lied and after being outed you still rushed to his defense. Because you wanted it to be true. Lying is the mantra of liberals. If they tell the truth, they can't win elections.

John K: Look at infinony, looks out over the landscape of America and sees failure. Failure of everyone and everything. Must be tough being an elitist eh infinony. What with the difficult job of reforming America to your standards. And even though you gave Bush an approval rating of 28% he just thumbs his nose at you and does his job. Hussein Obama and his elitist legions of liberals. LMAO LMAO

Anonymous said...

I didn't give Bush his record-setting lousy approval rating. The American people did. Just as they will make it impossible to venture into public after Sen. Obama replaces him unless Bush Jr. is ready to be mocked and ostracized.

Your beef isn't with me, John. It is with the American people, and their Constitution, and the fact that so much of what you support is un-American.

Why do you hate America, John?

Un-frickin-believeable.

Captain Porter posts this:
I am writing this to ask that you delete my email and not forward it. After checking my sources, information that was put out in my email was wrong. This email was meant only for my family. Please respect my wishes and delete the email and if there are any blogs you have my email portrayed on I would ask if you would take it down too.

And you guys are so welded to your world view that you clutch at any wiggle room you can. It's kinda pathetic, don't you think?

I'll post what the guy said again in case you missed it the first time:

I am writing this to ask that you delete my email and not forward it. After checking my sources, information that was put out in my email was wrong. This email was meant only for my family. Please respect my wishes and delete the email and if there are any blogs you have my email portrayed on I would ask if you would take it down too.

THE INFORMATION THAT WASS PUT OUT IN MY E-MAIL WAS WRONG.

The story was FALSE. What part of that don't you guys understand?

John K. is in the middle of giving a mid-level Republican operative a rather poor blowjob, so he can receive a few McCain buttons and also become a part of the "Country First Executive Supporters Circle"-- all without giving a dime of his hard-earned American monies from the pockets his Wrangler dungaree

He'll join us shortly, right after he brushes his teeth.

Anonymous said...

John K: Ha, you liberals make me laugh. Do you really think Obama will be in the White House. Us Republicans have stole this election already. It is ours.

Anonymous said...

John K: Well since you want more, you lefties can have your stalinist tactics. The right has Rove and Cheney. There have not been two better foot soldiers since Himmler and Hess.

John K: You lefties think people will believe the 'facts' you present no matter what. LOL! LOL! Fox is the only truth and the American people know it.

"Fox is the only truth and the American people know it."

ROTFLMAO Thanks, I needed that one. Funniest thing I read in awhile.

Please tell me you are kidding right? You really are not that stupid are you? You really are not a walking joke are you?

John K: Well then infino, you should take pride in the fact that the American people gave the Democratic congress a 9% approval. Go Reid/ Pelosi eh? LMAO

John K: Not responsible for the 9:31--8:49--8:48--4:39 post. This is funny. To score points you have to put words into my mouth? LMAO

The American public clearly expresses dissatisfaction with the current Congress.

And what will the public select as the cure in November?

More Democrats in the Senate.

More Democrats in the House.

Fewer Republicans in the Senate.

Fewer Republicans in the House.

Keep laughing, John. For a wingnut fringer, that may be the only way to ease the political pain you are about to experience.

Anonymous said...

I imagine the others post out of humor and cynicism towards John K. It is so much fun poking jabs at the village idiot known as John K.

John K: LMAO. LOL. LMAO. When Bush and Cheney declare marshall law and suspend the November elections, we will see who has to laugh.

For he who laughs last, has least,or at least has to laugh best, for the least inherit the earth. Liberal scum.
