Thanks! Having blogged there, I can say that their system is slower than blogger. LOL
We (OK, maybe that should be "I") don't generally think of Darlene Harris as "the progressive's friend." There are times when she's asked the same question, in the same words, a bit more often than seems useful. But she's dead honest. She's in nobody's pocket. And she definitely cares about the average guy (and gal). And I've never seen her refuse to listen to anyone on the basis of them being the "wrong" gender, age, class, orientation, race, etc. or for having the wrong political friends. she did pretty darn well with public works, as far as I can see. I'm moderately pleased with her as a bona fide potential bridge-builder, and as someone who won't be sticking her fingers in the pie, looking for a personal plum.
In fact, the more I think about it, the more I think that this is a good thing for progressives, and for progress on a variety of issues.
After all, being forced to defend our plans in terms of costs and benefits, not just moral imperatives, is exactly what we ought to have to do! I've found DH tolerably open to new (and dare I say, progressive) plans, so long as they're held together with real nuts and bolts, not wishful thinking.
Wishful thinking is putting D.H. in the realm of progressive, unless you are a cat or dog.
I'm not calling anyone here a cat or dog. Rather, D.H. is more interested in giving time to our furry friends than to citizens comments (and work of council for that matter) at council meetings.
Dream on.....
I found her quite engaged in several economic justice issues. She's also clearly given a lot of thought to practical matters dear to eco's, like how to care for the non-street trees and greenery within the city, where slopes and houses and powerlines converge.
More to the point, DH educated herself on cat/dog issues at the behest of a constituents and people proposing a novel program, not because she has a personal furry fixation. There are a lot of people who talk way beyond their knowledge base, or else take someone else's info at face value. It's fairly remarkable when an elected official instead bones up on an issue, IMHO.
Please note that I did not say she IS a progressive. I said that she's someone progressives should be able to work with, if they have their facts in order. Your experiences may, of course, differ.
