Pittsburgh City Council Meetings Now Webcasted

Pittsburgh City Council has long been broadcasted on cable TV and starting today you can also view them online at:

http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/council

Best of all:
Additionally, the new program will also integrate with City Council’s existing legislative tracking system. This new system will include embedded video that will allow residents to search video online and watch specific parts of the meeting that cover issues of particular interest.
Thank you, City Council, and especially Councilor Bill Peduto who pushed for this.

I found a link at www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us, and it took me a page where I should have seen the meeting (streaming). But it wouldn't work for me, perhaps because I am using Firefox, perhaps because I should have some add-on for Firefox.

There's a link on the Council page too right under their pictures.

I am the city web developer who has been working to integrate the video streaming into the Legislative Information Center (LIC). Here's a little background - for years, the City Clerk's Office (CCO) has been using Legistar, a database for tracking, archiving, and managing legislation. In 2007, the Clerk's Office launched the LIC, a web-facing module for Legistar. Last week, the CCO launched an upgraded version of the LIC, with the inclusion of live video streaming. The resulting new LIC should offer a lot of new benefit for those hoping to view, track, and engage in city legislation. The permanent link for the LIC is http://pittsburgh.legistar.com - those who are interested in video should click the "Live Video Streaming" tab. We will also be posting a direct link to watch meetings on the city and council homepages. The video requires a Windows Media Player plugin - there is indeed one available for Firefox: Firefox media plugins. The LIC - both the Legistar component and the video (Granicus) - is now hosted with those vendors respectively, and ample bandwidth is dedicated to offering these resources. The LIC is an ongoing project, and we will be posting an FAQ page in the near future.
