Which Springfield?

I wonder what would this bozo think about one family speaking Chinese, and another family speaking Russian I saw at the McIntyre Giant Eagle this morning. Are they illegals as well?

Springfield, TN according to the person who posted it on YouTube.

That alderman is a douche nozzle, but is it really necessary for the reporter to pronounce the Hispanic lady's name with such a heavy accent that it's almost unintelligible. Even the network anchors do it. Hearing them say "Nicaragua" makes me think they're drunk or having a stroke.

Brant,

I did notice when reporters started pronouncing Spanish names/words with proper accents -- it was exactly around the time that you started seeing Latinos as reporters on the TV news and they gave their byline at the end of a report.

In other words, they pronounced their own names properly.

;-)

It doesn't bug me in the least, but that's probably because I have a last name which many folks don't even try to pronounce. Can't tell you the number of times I've been, say, at a doctor's office or had someone call me and the conversation went like this:

Maria Luuuu... (drawn out "u" or a pause as they wait for me to step in).

I don't expect them to know that "cc" in Italian is pronouced as "ch" in English, but, yeah, it's surprisingly gratifying when they get it right. :-D

By the way, nice blog you have there. We'll have to blogroll you.

Thanks for the linkage, Maria. Your blog is one of the highlights of my morning routine. I don't know if that means I have a boring life, but I love the blog. ;-)
