Can't They Find Any NEW Information

From today's Midweek Briefing at the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
The American Resistance website soberly notes that Congress authorized amnesty for illegal aliens, in some form or other, not only in 1986, but also in 1994, 1997, 1998 and twice in 2000. Worked real well, eh?
This is the page the braintrust refers to.

But take a look at the splash page for the website.

The site was shut down in December of 2006.

What, they couldn't find anything NEW?

Or maybe they just didn't notice.

You know, I don't believe American born citizens wouldn't pick vegetables in fields, or wouldn't work in food factories that "process" beef and chicken (calling the factories that slaughter and prepare meat "plants" just seems counter-intuitive). But I think that American citizens would demand higher wages and the safety standards supposedly guaranteed by law, things illegals can not do, because they live in terror that their bosses will simply call ICE.

So illegals come across the border and are hired by farms to pick fruits and vegetables, or hired by Con-Agra or Smithfield to work in food factories. At least in the food factories they make a decent wage, but work in Dickensian conditions, with long shifts and pretty high accident rates (think about that next time you stop in McDonalds; I wouldn't advise thinking about how ground beef is made).

It is an interesting lottery. Come to America illegally and if you don't die during the trip, you will make lots more money than you could make in your home country (some large fraction of which you will send to your home country). Plus you will live in what is likely to be much better living conditions. On the down side, you live in constant fear of being deported and depending on where you work you may lose a limb.

If we don't like it, we could end it tomorrow if the government would go after Con-Agra, Archer Daniels or Smithfield. But then meat and fruits and vegetables would be "processed" by citizens and cost more (and fruits and vegetables already cost more than Twinkies and Doritos). OK, you can stop laughing now.
