More On Sarah Palin's Intellectual Consistency

This says it all:
Sarah Palin continues to defend Dr. Laura Schlessinger's use of the word "n****r" and blame liberals for forcing the controversial conservative radio show off the air. But just a few months ago Palin was adamant that using the "N-word," and other offensive terms, should be a firing offense...if you're a Democrat.

"I would ask the president to show decency in this process by eliminating one member of [his] inner circle, Mr. Rahm Emanuel," Palin wrote in February. "The Obama Administration's Chief of Staff scolded [liberal critics] calling them, 'F---ing retarded,' according to several participants, as reported in the Wall Street Journal. Just as we'd be appalled if any public figure of Rahm's stature ever used the "N-word" or other such inappropriate language...
Words fail.

No one is infringing on Dr. Laura's First Amendment rights. The government is not censoring her, nor is it punishing her for those comments.

However, public outrage and private corporations have the ability to remove anyone from any job at any time for what you say/do. The First Amendment protects your right to say what's on your mind, but it doesn't guarantee that you'll keep your job.

Ah, this is a bit messy. Did liberals defend Rahm? I mean, the contexts of the comments are different, and radio versus closed meeting is different, but at the end of the day, shouldn't we either call for both to resign or accept the apology of both?

It ends up sounding a bit like the mosque/community center thing: Sure they can say the words, their speech is protecting. But the wisdom of saying the words is questionable.

The First Amendment gone wild, like Star Trek's constant stretching of their Prime Directive ... hoist with our own Picard (to misquote Shakespeare)(sorry, I couldn't resist).

But, is it ok to yell "Movie!" in a crowded Fire House?

(With apologies to Steve Martin.)

@gtl, that is a great line.
