Right before midnight -- the deadline for voting -- it was declared that she had achieved a third strike because she was talking about forced invasive ultrasounds which somehow wasn't on topic. Hundreds in the audience erupted in chants of "Let her speak!" as a bunch of men debated her right to continue and -- no surprise -- decided that she could not.
Then they took a vote on the bill -- over 100,000 watched a live stream of the vote, which occurred AFTER MIDNIGHT -- meaning too late to pass the bill.
So what did the legislature do? They turned back the clock on the vote just as they turned back the clock on women's reproductive rights.

And then they arrested the audience who were protesting the illegal vote.
Democracy. Too bad we don't have one in Texas.

Yep, this was a real victory.
Well obviously if he's a doctor and he did wrong and broke the law then all doctors should be outlawed. You do understand that is according to your own 'logic.' Of course, you only want that kind of 'logic' narrowly applied to abortion. I assume, for example, you don't want to outlaw dentistry because of the dentist who gave people HIV.
And of course, if you outlaw abortion you'll only create more Gosnells...
The bill in question would make abortion illegal beyond 20 weeks’ gestation, would require abortion clinics to meet the standards of other ambulatory surgery centers and would require doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals. That sounds like regulation to me. Liberals believe everything from Wall Street, to energy companies, to insurance companies, to any other type of industry you can think of needs more regulation. Just don't touch the sacrosanct abortion industry.l,
There are already numerous and onerous regulations in most states covering abortion from forced waiting periods and counseling to medically unnecessary and invasive ultrasounds to unconstitutional 20-week or less bans. See charts here.
The new, additional Texas restrictions are simply punitive. They are not designed to protect women -- as they claim -- they are designed to push the limits as far as possible to ending a women's right to have an abortion. And some of the 'reasoning' given for the new restrictions by TX lawmakers would be hilarious if it wasn't for the fact that they'll hurt women and girls. Everything from the 'arguments' that "In the emergency room they have what's called rape kits where a woman can get cleaned out" to wanting to make the cutoff at 15 weeks because male fetuses masturbate in the womb at that age -- they don't.
A twenty week or earlier ban is unconstitutional because Roe V. Wade is still the law of the land and it's based on viability and 20 weeks is not viable.
Requiring abortion clinics to "meet the standards of other ambulatory surgery centers" is punitive because it requires that even of clinics that do not offer surgical abortions -- that only administer abortion-inducing drugs. Does your family physician need to have an office that meets ambulatory surgery centers if she/he isn't doing surgery? No, of course not!
The same goes for requiring all abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals -- not required of other non surgeons and also not possible because if nearby hospitals are Catholic-affiliated (which is increasingly likely) or simply don't want to be caught up in abortion controversy, they won't give privileges.
