We are torturing children over misdemeanors committed by their parents

The media needs to ask every Republican who repeats the line 'when people commit crimes, they are put in jail and separated from their children,' if they walked out of the room right now and jaywalked across the street if they would be thrown into jail and their children would be taken away?

They need to ask that because fully ***91%*** of parents being prosecuted at the border and forcibly separated from their children are being prosecuted for a *misdemeanor.*

A gotdamn misdemeanor!

Left wing outrage machine did not care about this under Obama.

Just a reminder: Your local District Attorney needlessly separates parents from kids, puts kids in cages every day in every city in America, often for the tiniest offenses. It’s appealing to project our sadism on to Trump, but it’s a core part of our culture.

"If you want me to believe your outrage over kids in cages is genuine you’re going to have to link me to your outrage ... from before 2016. "

What's the Venn diagram of people upset about separating families at the border and people who were fine with what the UK did to Charlie Gard and Alfie Evans?

If you are taken directly to jail for shoplifting (not a given) or an other misdemeanor, you are most likely given a summons and released quickly. If not, you are given an opportunity to make bail and have the right to an attorney -- these parents aren't given that option.

You are not kept in a dog kennel-like cage with space blankets for days then taken to a federal jail for weeks or months before being brought to a federal court to be sentenced en masse with tens of other defendants.

If your children are taken, they go to child services. They are not taken to cages with mats on the floor and space blankets to wait for days, sometimes with not enough people to change their diapers and no one allowed to even touch them to comfort them. Then, these children are sometimes shipped off to another part of the country -- sometimes over 1,500 miles away! Like the 50 that were just sent here to Pittsburgh!

While you are in jail you can make phone calls, unlike these parents. You know where your children are, unlike these parents.

The government has admitted that they don't even have plans in place to reunite these children and parents! Think about that for a second. NO PLANS TO REUNITE THEM. NOT EVEN NECESSARILY KEEPING TRACK OF WHICH CHILDREN BELONG TO WHICH PARENTS! Parents have been returned to their country after four months while their children are still in limbo here!

These are not parents who walk thousands of miles to come here on a whim. They are fleeing extreme violence: family members killed, daughters kidnapped and forced into prostitution, young sons forced into gangs.

Parents fleeing oppression are the people who built this country (along with people brought here in chains). This is why our country was created. We do not treat refugees like prisoners of war.

You are giving the corrupt justice system and law enforcement too much credit for how it treats US citizens and respects their rights.

But keep saying that illegal aliens have the same rights as US citizens.

New York State intends to file a multi-agency lawsuit against the Trump administration for violating the Constitutional rights of immigrant children and their families who have been separated at the border.
