Sally Kern's At It Again

You remember Sally Kern, right? She's a member of the state legislature in Oklahoma who caused a stir a few years ago when she asserted the Pittsburgh City Council was controlled by teh gayz.

She's at it again - but not about how Pittsburgh City Council's being controlled by teh gay agenda - but with this:
You know if you just look at it in practical terms, which has destroyed and ended the life of more people? Terrorism attack here in America or HIV/AIDS? In the last twenty years, fifteen to twenty years, we’ve had maybe three terrorist attacks on our soil with a little over 5,000 people regrettably losing their lives. In the same time frame, there have been hundreds of thousands who have died because of having AIDS. So which one’s the biggest threat? And you know, every day our young people, adults too, but especially our young people, are bombarded at school, in movies, in music, on TV, in the mall, in magazines, they’re bombarded with ‘homosexuality is normal and natural.’ It’s something they have to deal with every day. Fortunately we don’t have to deal with a terrorist attack every day, and that’s what I mean.
Ah, numbers. I love numbers.

But is the incessant Kern saying that because more people died of AIDS/HIV than terrorism that that means it's more of a threat to the US?

According to this paper, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, death by "sexual behavior" (and that's not just AIDS, by the way) barely makes it onto the list:

Perhaps the Kern would extend her analysis to its logical conclusion and declare that since more people are killed by death by firearms (or tobacco or alcohol or automobiles) that those things too, are more dangerous than terrorism.

Sally Kern - insanely scared of teh gay.

Hey, is it any surprise that she's associated with the American Legislative Exchange Council? The proof is found at her own website:
Sally’s memberships include Olivet Baptist Church, the Northwest Chamber of Commerce, Heart and Hand non-profit ministry, Eagle Forum, Frontier Country Republican Women’s Club, Advisory Board for the Master of Leadership Public Administration at Mid-America Christian University, Tri-Cities Republican Women’s Club, Oklahoma City Republican Women’s Club, and the American Legislative Exchange Council. She is, also, a board member of the Advisory Council for BOTT Radio, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, member of the Office of Personnel Management’s Employee Assistance Program Advisory Council, and member of the Advisory Board for HIRE (Help in Reaching Employment) at the Moore Norman Technology Center. Sally is also a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Nope. Not a surprise at all.

More On Sally Kern

Hey, you remember Sally Kern, right?

She's the Oklahoma wingnut who declared that the Pittsburgh city council was controlled by gays.

Well here she goes again. In a proclamation titled "Oklahoma Citizen's Proclamation for Morality" and signed "on the second day of July in the year of our Lord Christ Two Thousand and Nine" State Representative Kern declares, among other things, that those signing the proclamation believe that:
[O]ur economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis
And that:
[T]his nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery
The nation is promoting same sex marriage? And divorce is a form of debauchery? NOTE: I'm not saying that any of the other things she's listed ARE forms of debauchery, mind you. It's just so obvious that divorce isn't. Wasn't Ronald Reagan divorced? And Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh and Rudy Giuliani and John McCain. Perhaps the good State Representative Kern thinks they're trafficking all in debauchery.

The proclamation resolves among other things that:
[W]e the undersigned elected officials of the people of Oklahoma, religious leaders and citizens of the State of Oklahoma, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world, solemnly declare that the HOPE of the great State of Oklahoma and of these United States, rests upon the Principles of Religion and Morality as put forth in the HOLY BIBLE
And so on...

Doug Shields Responds

From today's P-G:

Pittsburgh City Council President Doug Shields may introduce a resolution condemning an Oklahoma state representative's comments that included Pittsburgh in a list of cities gays are "infiltrating."

Yesterday, Mr. Shields said the resolution would likely be less strident than an e-mail he sent to Rep. Sally Kern, whose comparisons of homosexuals to terrorists have made national news. Mr. Shields called her "the new national poster-child for hate, intolerance and terroristic homophobia."

Someone recorded remarks Ms. Kern made to a group of 50 fellow Republicans a few weeks ago, and they emerged online this week.

Like on this blog.

For those who have yet to see Council President Shields' whole e-mail, Sue has it posted here. In it he wrote:
As the President of the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, I require an apology from you for your senseless, mean spirited attack on one my colleagues and the Council as a whole. I would think, should you take the time to reflect upon your hateful, bigoted words. An apology is also in order to the GLBT community, their families and their friends. Short of a a miracle, I do not expect that you will. I find persons of your ilk completely blind to your ignorance. [italics in original]
Melissa Meinzer, over at City Paper had this to say:

Bruce Kraus, Pittsburgh's first openly gay councilor, has been on council less than three months. But he has a lot more sway than he may have realized.

Or so says Oklahoma state Rep. Sally Kern. By now, almost everyone has heard, or heard about, her anti-gay rant. In remarks Kern made in January that were posted on YouTube, Kern says that "the homosexual agenda is destroying this nation, okay, it's just a fact. Not all lifestyles are equal, just like not all religions are equal."

During the diatribe, which Kern has said were taken from a series of public appearances, she calls out our fair city of Pittsburgh as an example of a place where gays -- who Kern calls "the biggest threat that our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam, which I think is a big threat -- are taking over.

"Gays are infiltrating city councils," Kern says. "Have you heard that the city council of Eureka Springs is controlled by gays? There are others: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania."

At the bottom of the page promises more in the next issue of City Paper. Perhaps my friend Sue is right, and I broke this story here in town, (I think so, but I can't be sure). If she's right, then remember you read it here first.

Wow!

I found a link to this at crooks and liars.

Did you know that gays control the Pittsburgh City Council?

Thus spake Oklahoma State Representative Sally Kern:

Listen at about 1:36 in where she says:

Gays are infiltrating city councils. Did you know-- Eureka Springs, anybody been there? For the Passion Play? Ok? Have you heard that the City Council of Eureka Springs is now controlled by gays? Ok? There are some others. Uh, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania...

And so on...

Who knew that Bruce Kraus was wielding such power? I mean if some conservative State Rep in Oklahoma sez so, you know it's gotta be true, right??
