Protecting The Public At The Super Bowl

This Post-Gazette article informs us that Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl Steelerstahl Whateverhisnameisnowenstahl will be attending Sunday's Super Bowl in Tampa.

The article duly notes that the public will not be paying for any of his trip expenses -- the same being true for Allegheny County Exec Dan Onorato who will also be going.

However, it seems that Lil Mayor Luke will taking along his bodyguards while Onorato will be sans protection.

Which makes me ask the question: Why does Lukey need bodyguards?

Which leads me to remember that the bodyguards will be there more to protect the public from "Cuffs" Steelerstahl Ravenstahl than vice versa.

He might not need bodyguards as much as he needs drinking buddies... ;->

By contrast, I saw Bishop Wuerhl in the airport on Sunday, by himself, carrying his own bag. No entourage in sight.

Aye, why should he need bodyguards? Doesn't he realize that it only takes a maximum of 45 business days to get a license to carry a firearm? If my memory serves me correctly, the license would even be good in Florida.

Like anybody in Florida knows, or cares, who Lukey is.

The reflex is to lampoon the boy mayor for toting bodyguards to Tampa, but perhaps he knows something we do not know.

Angry boyfriends, maybe? Furious mistress? Guys who handed him $25,000 checks and didn't get special treatment? Maybe he doesn't plan to go without a fight if indicted? Backup for the inevitable bar brawl?

Unless he is aware of such a threat, the use of bodyguards is ludicrous. Even if you pointed him out and told someone in Tampa that he was the mayor of Pittsburgh, no one would believe it.

Yes, to protect the public and to protect Lukey from himself.

LOL, no I don't believe anyone in Florida would believe it.

I agree with Laurie, he needs drinking buddies.

He's going to have a heck of a time picking up chicks trying to convince them he's mayor of anything larger than 50 people.
