Democracy Has Prevailed.

October 27, 2009

I just cleaned my cat's litter box.

Please send me a check for $100,000 for that inspirational and motivational anectdote.

Thanks!

What is Al Gore's speaking fee to show his "We are going to DIE!!!!" PowerPoint and dodge any questions.

HTTT, the speaking fee question is somewhat applicable, but the "dodge any questions" snark is off topic. However, to address it, I'm not going to say Al Gore is perfect, but he is trying to help the planet. Are you seriously suggesting that George W Bush's realization that he now has to pick up his dog's poop is more important than global warming? And as for whether oil industry operatives have a chance to confuse the public with misinformation at one of Al Gore's presentations, I would rather they state their views in print, where scientists can take the time to address and consider their ideas.

You mean like.
CARS SOLD
From whom did Sir Nicholas Stern get his crazy idea that US vehicles aren’t sold in pristine, environmentally-aware China? Why, possibly from Holy Al Gore himself:

"We can’t sell our cars in China today because we don’t meet the Chinese emissions standards."

Wrong, almost-President Gore.

Even funnier Gore used the DMCA to get the video when he says that pulled from Youtube.

HTTT: From John Dean writing for CNN:
Readers may not recall exactly what President Bush said about weapons of mass destruction; I certainly didn't. Thus, I have compiled these statements below. In reviewing them, I saw that he had, indeed, been as explicit and declarative as I had recalled.

Bush's statements, in chronological order, were:

"Right now, Iraq is expanding and improving facilities that were used for the production of biological weapons."

United Nations address, September 12, 2002

"Iraq has stockpiled biological and chemical weapons, and is rebuilding the facilities used to make more of those weapons."

"We have sources that tell us that Saddam Hussein recently authorized Iraqi field commanders to use chemical weapons -- the very weapons the dictator tells us he does not have."

Radio address, October 5, 2002

"The Iraqi regime . . . possesses and produces chemical and biological weapons. It is seeking nuclear weapons."

"We know that the regime has produced thousands of tons of chemical agents, including mustard gas, sarin nerve gas, VX nerve gas."

"We've also discovered through intelligence that Iraq has a growing fleet of manned and unmanned aerial vehicles that could be used to disperse chemical or biological weapons across broad areas. We're concerned that Iraq is exploring ways of using these UAVS for missions targeting the United States."

"The evidence indicates that Iraq is reconstituting its nuclear weapons program. Saddam Hussein has held numerous meetings with Iraqi nuclear scientists, a group he calls his "nuclear mujahideen" -- his nuclear holy warriors. Satellite photographs reveal that Iraq is rebuilding facilities at sites that have been part of its nuclear program in the past. Iraq has attempted to purchase high-strength aluminum tubes and other equipment needed for gas centrifuges, which are used to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons."

Cincinnati, Ohio speech, October 7, 2002

"Our intelligence officials estimate that Saddam Hussein had the materials to produce as much as 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent."

State of the Union Address, January 28, 2003

"Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised."

Address to the nation, March 17, 2003

And you want to quibble about Al Gore. Be my guest.

From the site that always spins for Democrats in their debunking.
Quotes reproduce statements made by Democratic leaders about Saddam Hussein's acquisition or possession of weapons of mass destruction.

Status: True.

HTTT, yeah, from Clinton’s point of view he was worried when Saddam Hussein threw out the UN weapons inspectors in 1998. For Democrats after 9/11, if they didn’t support Bush’s belligerent statements, they risked being called traitors or worse, and certainly risked being voted out of office. But the point is that George W Bush should have been in a position to know better. He should not have been leading a charge to Iraq. And I will say that combat operations in Iraq went well. But we badly fumbled the occupation and we have broken the country. If we had not invaded Iraq, Al Qaeda would not be as strong as it is now.

So yeah, Democrats were part of the cheer leading squad that supported the war. Largely because of the way the Bush administration behaved. But Bush himself should have known what WMD’s there were in Iraq (or actually weren’t there). And I don’t ever recall him saying he was wrong.

Oh, and I guess you agree with me that the opponents of human caused global warming are spreading mis-information?
